Meet Sanja Zdjelar | Violinist & Performance Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Sanja Zdjelar and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sanja, what role has risk played in your life or career?
Risk is an inherent part of any decision-making process, and can be a key factor in achieving success. Taking calculated risks can lead to new opportunities and experiences, and can help to drive progress and innovation. At the same time, it’s important to carefully consider the potential risks and rewards of any action, and to try to minimize unnecessary risks when possible. Musicians often take risks in order to pursue their art and achieve success in their careers. This can involve taking risks with their music, such as trying out new styles or pushing the boundaries of what is considered mainstream. It can also involve taking risks with their career, such as moving to a new city to be closer to the music industry or investing time and money in their craft. Many successful musicians have achieved success by taking calculated risks and stepping outside of their comfort zones. Taking risks can be a vital part of the creative process and can lead to new and exciting opportunities for musicians.
As a young musician in Macedonia, I often face misunderstandings, primarily from the society itself, and then from the people I interact with on a daily basis.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Right now I’m a student at the University for Music in Skopje, Macedonia. My major is strictly in the instrument violin. I’m mostly proud of making everything i am today by myself and getting closer to what i want to be every day. What sets me apart from others is maybe my creativity and some new ideas i have come up with. Making a career in music can be a challenging and difficult journey. It requires a great deal of hard work, dedication, and talent. Many musicians face numerous challenges along the way, such as finding opportunities to perform, getting noticed by record labels or booking agents, and dealing with the financial insecurity that can come with a career in the arts.

One of the biggest challenges for me was the highly competitive nature of the industry. There are many talented artists out there, and it can be difficult to stand out and get noticed. Musicians often have to work hard to build a following and to get their music heard by a wider audience.
I can say that being a musician is not easy at all, but I am not giving up and I will achieve my dream.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Skopje is the capital and largest city of the Republic of Macedonia. It is located in the north of the country, along the Vardar River. Skopje is a city with a rich history and culture, with influences from various civilizations that have passed through the region over the centuries.

There are many interesting things to see and do in Skopje for tourists. One of the most popular attractions is the Old Bazaar, a colorful and lively market area with a long history. The bazaar is home to a variety of shops, restaurants, and cafes, and is a great place to shop for souvenirs or try traditional Macedonian cuisine.

Another popular attraction in Skopje is the Kale Fortress, a medieval castle located on a hill overlooking the city. The fortress offers beautiful views of Skopje and the surrounding area, and is a popular spot for tourists to visit.

In addition to its historical and cultural attractions, Skopje is also known for its natural beauty. The city is surrounded by beautiful mountains and forests, which offer plenty of opportunities for outdoor activities such as hiking and skiing.

Sanja is a talented violinist who had been playing the instrument since she was a child. She had always dreamed of making a career out of music, and she worked hard every day to improve her skills.

Her best friend Veronika is also a violinist, and she is one of her biggest supporters. Whenever Sanja is feeling down or unsure of herself, Veronika is there to encourage her and remind her of her talents.
