We had the good fortune of connecting with Sarah Bier and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sarah, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I fell in love with the creativity behind creating a menu of handmade and natural beauty products! In addition to creating products; coming up with a name, brand, theme, and overall mission is something that still excites me and keeps me on my toes everyday. I always knew that I wanted to create a business that fit my style of tropical, fruity, and fun vibes but could also be beneficial and tough on common skin issues. Once deciding my overall theme, ideas for new products and recipes started flowing. Watching my ideas come to life and hearing my customers amazing reviews are what make all the hard work and journey worth it!
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I love to keep things colorful and fun to look at, whether it be scooping our whipped scrubs to look like ice cream, or soap making videos that show behind the scenes of how our goodies are made. All Cocomango products are 100% Handmade, Natural, Vegan, SLS (Sulfate) Free, Paraben Free, Phthalate Free, and made with only the highest quality ingredients and additives that are safe for you and the environment. After over 12 years of researching and experimenting hand-making products, as a Licensed Esthetician, I believe that I’ve sourced top-quality ingredients and created recipes that have helped not only my sensitive acne-prone skin but countless friends, family, clients, and customers as well.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
It would have to depend what city they’d like to visit! In my hometown of San Diego, CA one of my favorite day plans is visiting Pacific Beach and getting brunch at Crushed on Garnet Ave. We could also walk the pier and get a few drinks with a view of the sunset at Wonderland Ocean Pub in Ocean Beach! You can also run into a local farmers market depending on the day of the week-–one of my top favorites is the Little Italy farmers market every Saturday, and Hillcrest market on Sundays in San Diego. If we were in the Inland Empire, we could walk around Dos Lagos lakes and beautifully built bridge in Corona, CA which many visitors come to have photoshoots or have a dinner date night at TAPS Brewery with a view of the lakes and palm trees. Don’t forget to stop by Cocomango Beauty Bar for in-store product order pickup also located just steps away from the Dos Lagos bridge! Last, if we were to visit Orange County, I would say one word—Disneyland! In addition to the magical world of Disney, Orange County also has beautiful Newport Beach to visit and stroll the boardwalk with gorgeous views and a ton of good restaurants and entertainment to choose from.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
To any and all clients and customers who support my business and love Cocomango products—thank you! Throughout the entrepreneurship journey times can get lonely. Not having a regular workplace with coworkers and doing something different from the majority can cause you to become isolated and feeling discouraged. The one thing that always remained consistent and gave me feel the courage to keep going is the Cocomango love I receive from my clients and customers. Nothing makes me happier than to receive messages, texts, and shoutouts from customers who tell me how much my products have helped their skin; or how much joy they get from using my products throughout their day. Without their ongoing love and support, I don’t think I could have made it this far in my journey!
