We had the good fortune of connecting with Sarah Djuandy and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sarah, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I found my passion in art when I was barely 5 years old. My mother signed me up in an art academy knowing that I was too young and I clearly remember that I enjoyed drawing so much. Since then, art has been a huge hobby in my life. I have always found joy in creating art, so I decided at an early age that I want to pursue an art career in the future.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
As a recent graduate from Ringling College of Art and Design with a Computer Animation degree, my art journey was far from easy. Since I did not have sufficient art education and preparation before attending an art school, it was extremely difficult keeping up with all the other talented artists. Nevertheless, I did not regret going through four years of art school.

I spent my senior year producing my animated thesis film called, “Summer Blood”, which has come to a success. The whole process was an unforgettable and humbling experience. Despite the hardships, I would not say that I was going through it alone as I was guided by instructors, helped by mentors and friends, and supported by my family. Making a film in one year is unbelievably overwhelming and requires sacrificing sleep and leisure as expected. There are times that I just needed to be human again and take breaks from working on my film for days. This may sound scary, but I do want to share that this whole process is worth it to help begin my professional life and career. Thanks to that, I now have my first job in an animation studio as an animator. I am enjoying what I am doing and I am very excited about what’s to come.

When the time comes, I will be happy to share my film, Summer Blood. Hope you guys enjoy it!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I am a foodie! So, the first thing on my list is to bring my best friend to Downtown Los Angeles, where all the best food is. Koreatown is definitely my go-to since my favorite food is Korean food. There are also plenty of dessert places and we can definitely explore each one every day! Aside from food, I will probably bring my best friend to the best photo places around Los Angeles. Maybe a hike to the Hollywood sign or a walk on Santa Monica beach.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to dedicate my shoutout to my family and friends!

I am forever grateful to my family (mom, dad, brother, and my two beloved dogs), who have always supported me in everything I do. From attending all my basketball competitions, watching school plays and events that I am involved in, and now supporting me in my professional artistic career. Furthermore, I am also thankful for my friends in college. We struggled in making our senior thesis together and were able to help each other whenever one of us breaks down.
