We had the good fortune of connecting with Sarah Ford and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sarah, what habits do you feel helped you succeed?
Working on my mindset and health has been a crucial part of being creative and a business owner. I try to make time to meditate and exercise daily and have a routine. Without that I tend to feel somewhat lost and can easily be overwhelmed.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I create movie posters as a career artist for the last 17 years and I also take photos, paint and illustrate. I’ve always loved story telling with a single image. It’s never been easy, I think that working in a high-paced environment with a lot of creative pressure and competitiveness has been my biggest struggle. I enjoy taking time with an image or an idea and really getting to know a story. Entertainment Advertising doesn’t exactly lend anyone the luxury of time. I’ve had to learn to have my own projects and to find ways to slow the pace for myself. I think that my art has a strong feminist approach that is not often seen in commercial advertising. Many Art Directors in my field are males and enjoy films that in a super hero genre, I’ll work on your Indy film or horror poster any day. The other challenge has been being categorized as a female and expected to work on certain types of shows or movies. I still will work on all of those, but I choose to showcase the projects I personally enjoy.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I really enjoy the hiking in Los Angeles, the ocean and the amazing food options. I would definitely wake up early to go out whale watching for starters. Then, for the afternoon we could (pre-covid) visit a Korean spa in Redondo to relax and warm up. Right now there are some fun drive in movies all over, like at the Hollywood Cemetery. Oh, and we would definitely grab some Japanese food at the downtown village mall with the arcade and karaoke spots to finish!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My partner has be a huge part of my growth and security to start my own business and venture into new projects. Ben Marx is also a creative inspiration and always supportive. My mentors have been many, but two stand out for my growth. George Haas with Mettagroup and Maggie Lynch have been a spiritual support and help for me to try things that I may not have otherwise.
