We had the good fortune of connecting with Sarah Lawrence and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sarah, what do you attribute your success to?
Giving a f*ck. It was never about money. It was about delivering a damn good service before the event even begins, along with backing it up with a great product onsite.

I have worked in many bars all over the world and I have taken everything I hated about working for everyone else and made sure I did not do the same thing. From buying their meals onsite and making sure they never go hungry, to tipping them out of my own pocket because the tip jar remains mainly empty at an open bar where no money is exchanged.

I used to work in a bar and they would only have like 100 rags for 20 people for the ENTIRE NIGHT. Including end of night breakdown and reset of the WHOLE BAR. If you didn’t get one early, you just didn’t get a rag. Bartenders know rags are essential or else you just have wet hands ALL NIGHT. It’s disgusting.

Each of my bartenders onsite gets FIFTEEN RAGS EACH. I will never allow my staff to have wet hands.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Building Cali Craft to what it is today was certainly not easy. There was a time in 2017 when we had NINE weddings in a weekend. Three Friday, three Saturday, three Sunday.

On the second day after I had got back from the event I was working and finished unloading the van, I lay on the driveway and cried my heart out. I was in so much pain, my back hurt, I still had to load three more vans for the next day and work again tomorrow. I thought to myself; I don’t want to do this any more, why did I choose this, why did I choose something with so much physical labor. I wanted to give up. I wanted to fold. But I knew it would get better. We had 117 events that year, it was a lot!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I have recently joined the “Inner Circle” coaching program through Danny Morel (https://www.instagram.com/dannymorel). There are eight hours of calls per week, multiple different conferences throughout the year which focus on personal and business development. I have only been in the program for two months and have already felt a shift in my attitude and my business.
