We had the good fortune of connecting with Sarah Lefton and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sarah, what habits do you feel play an important role in your life?
I believe my outgoing personality, easygoing attitude, and knack for cultivating positive relationships have been instrumental in the success of my business. As I embark on this new season of my career, I aim to channel my creative energy while embracing each project with enthusiasm and expressing gratitude for every opportunity that comes my way. This new mindset has allowed me to view my career through a lens of self-fulfillment, pushing my boundaries, and ultimately finding happiness in my work life.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My art is a reflection of my passion for creativity, travel, and storytelling. What sets me apart is my unique ability to find the hidden treasures and talented, obscure artisans that provide me with, not only a collection to style with, but a history and story behind their art, which illuminates ones’ emotions.
I am most proud of my ability to provoke emotion through my work. My journey to where I am today has been a culmination of me venturing down many paths in the creative world. I was never real sure of where I fit in, but as I grew as a woman, and then a mother, I found something that reignited my passion, energy, and love for creating classic, timeless moments.
It has not always been easy as a mother of three young children, trying to juggle motherhood, as my husband pursued his career. I gave so much of myself, and eventually had to focus on my own happiness, which led me back to my creative work. I learned that I am truly most happy when given the opportunity to be surrounded by other creatives who are like-minded.
I want the world to know that my art is a reflection of my authentic self and my experiences. I strive to create work that resonates with others.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
This question is my happy place…. there is nothing I love more than exploring and showing others the true life this city and its surroundings hold.
Day 1: I might be bias in this response, because I live in the South Bay, but, naturally, it would be my first stop after picking someone up at LAX. I would pick up poke bowls in El Segundo and have a picnic at Bruce’s Beach, followed by a walk on the strand. I would top it off with a stop at Manhattan Creamery and some local shopping at Manhattan Beach’s local gems: Right Tribe, Wrights, and Gumtree, to name a few. What would be a better end cap to the day then a sunset and a fanta shot at Shellbacks? Perhaps a trucker hat to take back as a souvenir.
Day 2: Jumping in the car (after a quick stop at Barran’s for their famous breakfast burritos) and heading to Malibu for a hike on the Solstice Canyon Trail. Next stop, Malibu Farm Shop to reward ourselves for the workout with a glass of orange wine, seafood, and surf watching.
Day 3-6: Road trip along the Central Coast — my absolute favorite. Driving up the 1 heading into Santa Barbara to explore everything from the zoo to vintage shops to the fish market. If we are lucky, we can catch a show at the Santa Barbara Bowl. Santa Barbara Shellfish Company, on the the very end of Stearns Wharf, is a MUST for a cold pint, oysters, and Santa Barbara’s famous uni. After a quick stop to Westward General to grab some vintage gems, we start heading up to wine country. Obviously we will need fuel, in the form of tacos, so we hit up Los Agaves.
Next stop: Santa Ynez for a night at Hotel Ynez. The next morning we would head to wine tasting, but not before a stop at Bob’s Bakery for breakfast, at the various wineries, including, Sarloos and Sons. Once we have a good buzz, we would stop at Stein’ Spots Farm to visit the miniature donkeys at the rescue. Dinner would definitely be at SY Kitchen and maybe a nightcap and karaoke at Mavericks.
Continuing on our journey, we would head to Ojai for a stay at Caravan Outpost for a couple of nights. Our time in Ojai would be spent hiking, shopping, and dining at the various local establishments. Hiking is not hiking if you haven’t experienced the hidden waterfalls of Matilija Falls. Shelf Road and/or Horned Canyon will be saved to explore for the second day. After a long hike, the farmers market is a great spot to grab some lunch. and pick up local honey, wildflowers, and lavender. Some of our favorite dining spots are The Nest, Ojai Tortilla House, and Ojai Rotie for some great farm to table options.
I could always keep heading north on the scenic 101, but it will be time to head home.
Day 7: Back in LA….. a tour through the Broad Museum and an exploratory lunch at Central Market. We would definitely have to stop at The Last Bookstore, stepping back in time to our childhood favorites. Maybe we would ride Angels Flight just for sport. Then…. final dinner in LA…. you can’t go wrong with Bestia.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I attribute much of my success to the incredible women in my life—my friends. They have provided unwavering support, helping me regain the confidence to reenter the workforce, reminding me of my strengths, and encouraging me to pursue my goals. They consistently offer emotional support, understanding the challenges of balancing motherhood with the desire to pursue professional endeavors. Women supporting women, especially after all pausing to raise our families, etc. has proven to be the greatest motivator. To all my amazing friends, thank you. I love you, I see you, and I appreciate you!
