Meet Sarah Louise Rector | Fitness expert & podcast host

We had the good fortune of connecting with Sarah Louise Rector and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sarah Louise, what do you attribute your success to?
Consistency as a trainer and showing up for clients regularly are key factors. When my subscribers / workout class members / PT clients do my workouts it’s like they are working out with their friend, and not a boot camp Sargent! I’m trainer that want’s their workouts to be fun and enjoyable and not have clients dread doing their workout! My brand represents fun fitness.
Keeping in “real” and organic also helps, sharing that it’s ok to have day’s when you need to rest and reset and its ok to indulge and not be hard on yourself.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’m the creator of The SLR Life workouts, virtual + in person group workout classes. I love what I do, helping others be the best versions of themselves with my workout styles and encouraging daily movement in the body for longevity. My online subscription of workouts has a variety of shorter and longer length videos, so for someone with a busier schedule there is still options with the shorter videos to implement staying active into their lifestyle. As “not having enough time to workout” is often what I hear a lot form someone wanting to try and be active!!! Now there is no excuses….
Growing up I trained and performed professionally as a dancer, so movement and connecting with my body comes naturally to me. I always enhance this during my workout sessions learning to engage your muscles mindfully as well as working with improving the mobility in the body, my clients/subscribers who show up regular always voice their increased mobility in their body as well as all of the other SLR Life workout benefits. I’m a believer that it should be part of your lifestyle and not just a short term “fix”.
My career in the fitness space started when I relocated form the UK to Los Angeles (this relocation was for love as my husband is American) I started working at a boutique fitness studio called ModelFIT, which created great opportunities and networking with like minded others and after being head hunted through my social media by an online platform called DailyOM this is where my fitness career in the virtual space was created back in 2017.
Being a fitness trainer isn’t always easy, there was a time where i was teaching 10 classes a week, sometimes 3 hour long classes back to back and anyone that ever took my group fitness classes would agree that I did around 85% of the class. Learning to recover and reset more was hard for me in the beginning as I’m a go go go type of person and always like to keep pushing myself, but this new industry definitely challenged me physically and mentally!
Fast forward to now, working for myself, creating workout content that is successful, kind to the body and always gives a great mood boost..I feel so blessed!
As a fitness expert with a business fitness platform and living in a very fitness influenced city, comparing yourself to other trainers with similar workout styles (especially with social media) can be tough. Learning to focus on your own craft, expertise, being passionate about my choice o fitness styles and being educated in my workouts is the only thing I focus on. As long as my clients are happy and feeling and seeing the results that motivate them to jump out of bed in a morning to press play on an on demand SLR Life class, or come take an in person group fitness class with me then I am a happy girl!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I love to play tour guide when my British family/friends come to visit me in LA! First stop would be a trip to the Grove outdoor shopping mall, to soak up the perfect California weather whilst strolling around the shops and feeling like a proper tourist with the old school Frank Sinatra music playing over the speakers.
I love to dine out at Cecconis Italian restaurant on Melrose Ave. During the pandemic and the transition of dining outside this created a picture perfect white table cloth dining experience when Cecconi’s valet parking area was converted into outdoor dining. Great food and drinks accompanied with a fun LA crowd always is a favorite from my visitors I have taken there.
A workout on the beach on the westside or one of my in person SLR Life classes at Rafi Lounge in Malibu is a must! Ocean fronted views with the California weather whilst doing my low impact sculpt workout really transports you into vacay mode! and then followed by a trip to Malibu country mart for lobster rolls and some shopping.
I love the hustle and bustle of a Sunday morning farmers market trip in Larchmont. Fresh produce, a stroll with the dogs followed by a brunch at the Great white (they do really good iced matcha latte’s) followed by more shopping at a boutique called the Library!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Joni Lefkowitz. Has been a member with The SLR Life online workouts since day 1. As a business owner in the fitness space it can be easy for clients to come and go, but Joni always shows up to the zoom workouts, the in person group fitness classes and she also take’s full advantage of all of The SLR Life on demand videos.
My hard work of constantly producing new content, paying out of pocket for studio rentals (which you can never guarantee that people are going to show up!!!) is so rewarding by having clients enjoy your hard work.
Joni is a mom of a gorgeous little girl, has a great successful career and always makes time for herself so I am so thrilled to be able to give a shoutout to her.
