We had the good fortune of connecting with Sarah & Matthew Luker and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sarah & Matthew, do you have a favorite quote or affirmation?
“Our only enemy is the status quo. Our only friend is chaos.” – These wise words of the Upright Citizens Brigade have always resonated with us. We have an intrinsic passion for challenging existing norms and find that we are our best selves when navigating the next unknown chapter together.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Transplants Brewing Company has been making the Antelope Valley weirder since opening its doors in early 2016. In the last couple of years we reinvented our brewery identity to include an original live music venue. It’s been the time of our lives as our everyday playlist here has manifested itself on our stage. In addition to our eccentric beers, we’ve also become known for the imaginative art of BL Singleton that adorns our branding and murals. We originally met when he was making concert flyers for Matt’s band so things have come full circle as we now spend our time together promoting shows and making flyers for the touring artists performing here.
Originally planned to launch around the time of the shutdown, the unfortunate timing of this delay made us wonder if we’d ever see this long shared vision to fruition. After jumping in headfirst with the same strong opinions we brought to beer, we’ve soon found our new venue becoming a favorite stop for touring performers.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
We know we’re biased, but pretty much every night Transplants is hosting what we believe to be the most interesting thing happening in town. When we’re showing a visiting friend the best possible time we really don’t need to go anywhere else. In addition to live bands, our action packed weeks include comedy, trivia nights, drag shows, wrestling matches and video game tournaments. We are also known for hosting the best local food trucks on a daily basis, including long time favorites Fresh off the Grill Tacos. We feel proud to call the Antelope Valley home and even prouder to be the ones bringing the party.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
It’s hard to imagine Transplants Brewing Company in its current evolution without the dedicated leadership of its amazing manager Rosanne Futch. Originally a patron turned beertender, she has been helping give our team and company direction and momentum for most of its existence. Having also become good friends, it’s been a thrill to work together to reinvent our brewery as a live music venue with our shared vision.
