Meet Sarah Meyz | Pop Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Sarah Meyz and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sarah, how do you think about risk?
From moving to a different country by myself at a young age, to moving to another different country to complete an internship with an incredible mixing engineer I had only met once, taking risks have been a big part of my career and life overall, and I absolutely love it. There are many things I’ve learned from my experiences, but the one that has stuck to me the most is that although intuition plays a major role in it, planning and logical thinking are key in these situations. My line of thought when I need to decide if I will or not take the risk, is to ask myself: “Will this help me in the short or long term somehow?”. Sometimes, the short term answer is no, but in the long term, it will be worth it, and vice-versa. Finding balance within these choices is important, as well as keeping your goals in mind and pushing yourself to at least try to go past the initial difficulties. That extra effort you put in the beginning can make a huge difference later on.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I have been a musician and performer for as long as I can remember. It is what I truly love to do and healthily obsess about! Being an independent pop artist might not be as easy as one thinks, but it is certainly an adventure I wouldn’t trade for anything in the Universe.
Besides being an artist and musician, I am also a music producer and engineer, writing, recording, mixing and producing songs. Having such skills allows me to have more control over the creative side of my artistry, keeping the music unique and genuine to who I am. I love to experiment with “out of the box” ways to create music, especially when it comes to my vocals and harmonica sound. This tiny instrument has such a power to it, that even after 15 years in its incredible company, I am still able to find thousands of new and fun paths to explore with it. Pedals, delays, stutters, micro shift…the list of effects I’ve experimented the harmonica with goes on and on!
If there is something I have learned about myself this past year, is that there is always a good way to reinvent myself, no matter what the circumstances are. Recently in my country, Brazil, we have lost an incredible and extraordinary artist and comedian named Paulo Gustavo. He had such an inspiring spark and energy around him, it was remarkable. He once said: “Despite all the pain and suffering the world is going through now, art has the ability of making it all lighter somehow”. Art is magical, art is truth, and I am absolutely thrilled to live immersed in it.
Looking forward, I am now planning my next single releases, following my latest one, “Go Ahead”, available on all streaming platforms. The music video for “Go Ahead” can also be watched on my YouTube channel, having just hit the 35.000 views mark, and I am very, very happy and infinitely thankful for all the support from my fans!! You can keep up with my new singles, projects and quirkiness through my Instagram @sarahsarahmeyz!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
What I love the most about LA is the mix of city vibes with nature. I would definitely start my day by going on a hike to see the Hollywood sign. There you will get some of the nicest views from the city, while being in contact with the mountains. Afterwards, food will definitely be needed, and nothing better than some Brazilian food at Bossa Nova, near Sunset Boulevard. To end the day, I’d take a stroll at the Santa Monica pier and enjoy the nice ocean breeze.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There are so many amazing people that have helped me throughout my career, professors, mentors, friends, strangers, the list keeps on going. But there are two people that I cannot be thankful enough for everything they have done and keep on doing so I can reach my goals: my parents. From going on tour with me when I was fourteen, to getting a judge to authorise me to play in a renowned Blues bar in São Paulo, my parents have always supported me and my gigantic dreams, and without their strength and love, I would certainly not be where I am today.
