We had the good fortune of connecting with Sarah Sluder Elizabeth Hendrickson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sarah Sluder, how did you come up with the idea for your business?
ELLIE AND SASS was born out of a simple need and want that we found lacking in our community. We were tired and way too busy to be running around Los Angeles to get beautified. Why was it so hard to find one place to get everything done we found ourselves asking. So we just decided to create it!

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
What you will find at ELLIE AND SASS is a personal and inviting salon experience. We are small but mighty, so expect everyone to know you’re name after a few visits. Our attention to detail and care is like no other. Pre covid we were also the first multi purpose salon to do more than one service at once! Imagine getting your nails and lashes done simultaneously, hello time saver! We may not be able to do that now however we are very thankful for our outdoor garden that has provided us to do our treatments outside and remain open (when allowed) for customers to feel extra safe. Now that we are allowed to run at limited capacity, stations are positioned 6 feet away and dividers have been added for manicure stations. Covid has actually been our biggest challenge to date, it has shown us how strong we really are. We have the most incredible and dedicated team that have remained positive and persevered with us through the storm that continues to shift and change direction on a day to day basis. ELLIE AND SASS is not just a small business, it is a family.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
We love Malibu! Take a ride up the PCH for the best ocean views, So many hikes along the way, we love Tuna Canyon Park in particular. Dont forget to pick up Cholada on your way home for yummy Thai food and if you have time to grab a drink at Nobu for a sunset its the perfect way to finish your day.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
We could not have opened our salon without the help of our close friends ( you know who you are) and our families. We built our space literally with our own hands and our friends were there to help every step of the way. Wether it was helping paint, build fences, put up walls or chipping in for a new front door, ELLIE AND SASS wouldn’t look as beautiful as it does if it weren’t for all of them. A special BIG shout out to owner Sarah Sluders husband, Jess Sluder for building out the bulk of the salon including welding our custom lash beds and for being our handy husband when ever we were in a pinch.
