We had the good fortune of connecting with Sarahlyn and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sarahlyn, why did you pursue a creative career?
For me, pursuing a creative career has always been about expression, connection, and purpose. Music has been part of my life for as long as I can remember — from playing instruments to writing songs, it became the way I process life and share it with others. Choosing this path wasn’t about chasing a spotlight, but about following something that feels natural and meaningful.

What drives me is the chance to create music that resonates with people, whether it’s through a groove that makes them move, or lyrics that bring comfort or strength. My faith has always grounded me in that — reminding me that music can be more than just entertainment, it can uplift, inspire, and bring people together.

A big part of that has also been Live Session Jam, a platform I’ve helped build with my friend; Alan D’Auria. It’s given me a chance to grow as a performer while supporting other artists in their own journeys.

That’s why I’m so excited to be releasing brand-new music later this year — it’s my most personal and soulful work yet, and I’m ready to finally share this next chapter with the world.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’m incredibly excited to finally be releasing all original music this year. Each song is a piece of my personal journey — learning to love myself, embracing growth, and celebrating the beauty of life. This upcoming project is truly an expression of gratitude and joy, but it also reflects the struggles it took to get here. The path hasn’t been easy, but it’s been worth it.

One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned along the way is the importance of community and connection. Networking and building genuine relationships have been essential — it’s how I’ve been able to find the right producers and collaborators to bring this vision to life. I feel so honored to be working with incredible producers like Turra Medina, Mateo Barragón, and Joe Cefalu, as well as a roster of amazing musicians, many of whom I’ve met through Live Session Jam. That space has been such a powerful community for me — a place to connect, grow, and make music with others who are just as passionate about creating.

What sets my work apart is the authenticity behind it. My songs aren’t just about melodies and grooves (though there’s plenty of that with my blend of soul, funk, R&B, and pop) — they’re about stories and real emotion. I believe music is a language that transcends barriers, and for me, it’s a way of communicating with people of all backgrounds. That’s what keeps me pushing forward, even when the industry feels tough. As an independent artist, you end up wearing a lot of hats — from booking shows and handling the legal side, to promoting your music and building your fan base. It can be overwhelming, but at the end of the day, I remind myself that I do this because music is my contribution to the world.

I want people to know that my brand, my art, and my story are rooted in honesty and connection. I create because I believe in the power of music to move, to heal, and to outlast us. Long after I’m gone, I hope my songs will still be there to make someone feel understood, joyful, or inspired. That’s what excites me most — knowing that what I create now can live on as a celebration of life, love, and humanity.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend was visiting LA for a week, I’d want them to experience the full range of what makes this city so special — the culture, the food, the music, and of course, the beautiful views. I drive all over LA on a weekly basis, and I love embracing the different pockets of culture that make the city so unique.

We’d definitely explore LA through its food — from the Valley to DTLA to the South Bay, we’d explore a great vibrant mix of restaurants and shops. There are so many neighborhoods where the food alone tells the story of LA’s culture. A walk down Hollywood Boulevard to see the Stars and stop by Amoeba Music Store, is a must for any music lover. A day at the beach would also be essential — either in Santa Monica with its pier and ocean views, Venice or make or way up to one of my favorite spots; Point Dune in Malibu.

The Griffith Observatory would be another highlight. It’s one of the best places to take in the city, whether during the day for sweeping views or at night with the lights sparkling below.

And of course, live music in the evening is a must. Depending on what’s happening, we might catch a big show at the Hollywood Bowl or Greek Theatre, or keep it more intimate at a local jam like Live Session Jam, where the focus is on collaboration, community, and the joy of music.

Honestly, a week wouldn’t feel long enough — there’s always something new to discover, and LA has this unique way of bringing people together through its mix of food, culture, and music. That’s the real LA experience I’d want to share.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’d love to give a huge shoutout to Live Session Jam, the community project that my friend; Alan D’Auria and I have been building together. What makes it so special is the format: every week we bring together a handpicked house band and feature an invited guest artist, performing a mix of originals, occasional covers, and a lot of improvisation. Then in the second half, the stage opens up to the audience for a true jam session — whether it’s a group of musicians wanting to improvise, or a singer stepping up to deliver a powerful cover. All genres are welcome, and that openness has created such a unique, supportive space.

The energy and connection that comes from Live Session Jam constantly inspires me. It’s more than just an event — it’s a community where musicians and artists push each other, share their voices, and remind us all why music is so powerful. Being part of it has helped me grow not only as an artist, but as a person, and I’m grateful to all the incredible musicians who’ve become part of the journey.
