Meet Savanna Ruedy | Photographer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Savanna Ruedy and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Savanna, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Starting my photography business has been such a natural progression but over a lot of hard work and random gigs.. I went to school for photography at Minneapolis College of Art and Design, After that I was able to transition to internships related to photography in NYC. I Interned at Refinery 29 and Milk Studios. After that I just became a retoucher and an assistant. All while continueing working only career as a photographer. Eventually I stopped all the side gigs and became a photographer full time.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My art is colorful, expressive, moody, intimate, dreamy, and etherial. I think what sets me apart from others is my use of color and my dreamy aesthetic. I am also unique in my use of color inside the studio specifically.. at least I like to think that! I got to where I am professionally through a lot of hard work and continuing to be inspired by people around me. I never stop making work I just love my craft so much.. it’s truly my passion. It was not easy at all and it continues to be hard and challenging. I am always pushing myself to get further and level up in all ways whether it’s how my work looks or who I am working with. I would love the world to know how much I truly am passionate about my craft. Photography is truly the center of my life.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I am new to LA! So this is hard for me lol. But I would say I love going out. Some bars I like are Cha Cha Lounge, The Edmon, Gold Diggers, The Semi Tropic, Little Joy, El Prado etc.. I also love going on hikes and walks around the city Echo Park, Elysian Park, Hollywood Reservoir.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’d give a shoutout to Ignite Models in Minneapolis. I interned when I was only 20 years old. I feel like I started really believing in myself when I was with one of my favorite mentors, Kelly Streigel who managed new faces at the time. Honestly.. I just had to have someone give me a clear path and process of how to get into the industry and she was endlessly helpful in that. So many times people get caught up in fine details when in reality it’s very straightforward how to accomplish dreams. She gave me that push and drive.
