We had the good fortune of connecting with Savannah Starr and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Savannah, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I started Haute Sugar Co. with a dream to reinvent cotton candy. Yup, I wanted to modernize the blue and pink cotton candy found at fairs or amusement parks, in clear plastic bags ready to be gobbled down by kiddos and adults alike. I thought big, I thought of infusing cotton candy with rosé, which to this day is still one of our most popular puffs. I thought of embellishing cotton candy with savory toppings such as crispy prosciutto that was dusted on top of a juicy cantaloupe cotton candy puff with local micro greens and salt cured duck eggs. I thought, let’s add edible glitter and edible gold flakes to elevate the otherwise ordinary fluff. Whatever I dreamt, I created. Creating a modern twist on the nostalgic treat.
Beyond the flavors and unique toppings, I wanted to merge the two worlds I loved fashion and food, hence the name Haute Sugar Co.
Today I am so proud of how far we have come and where we continue to go. We will continue to push our imagination therefore our company, to where others have never gone before.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Haute Sugar Co. is my sweet dream come true. I’ve combined my love for fashion, Paris, sweets, and pink of course to created a brand that I LOVE, and love sharing with others! We went from a single cotton candy cart back in 2016 ran by yours truly to bringing on a partner, Joshua James (also my. cutie Fiance), and a team of 6+ Hauties (staff). We’ve added on to our fleet with a vintage ice cream truck, ice cream cart, and multiple cotton candy carts, talk about growth. We are gearing up to open a brick and mortar experience location in Nashville, TN in 2024 with many more locations to follow. My motto is ‘if Willy Wonka can do it, so can I”.
I am still learning how to navigate this crazy world of being an entrepreneur, BUT every single day I am more and more grateful for taking the huge leap of faith, in myself.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Oh shucks my mind is racing with how many people deserve a shoutout! But today, I dedicate this shoutout to the three women in my life who have never, ever doubted me; my Grandmother (Heidi), Mother (Starr), and Great-Aunt (Tiffany). Not only have they never doubted me, but they all have played a huge role in my success. Being entrepreneurs themselves they have taught me all I know; to be brave, bold, powerful, badass, luminous, benevolent, loving, and curious.
The one thing they all have in common is their unwavering support for my dreams to become my reality. Combined they have taught me to take the earth shattering “there is no way” moments to “there must be a way” a-ha moments that lead my closer to my goal.
They have taught me to dream big, and that nothing, I mean nothing is impossible. Through vision boards, manifesting, books, adventure, sticky notes all over my Aunts guest bedroom, from the floor to the ceiling, now that was a sight to see huh Aunty?! These techniques have made me the entrepreneur I am today. Without these powerful ladies I would not be Savannah Starr and I would not be Haute Sugar Co.
So, here’s to the powerful women in my life, Grammy (Heidi Borchers), Mama Bear (Starr Hall), and Aunty (Tiffany Windsor). This one’s for you, I love you all.
