We had the good fortune of connecting with Savannah Vinson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Savannah, how do you think about risk?
I graduated high school one year early at 17 years old from Ohio to move to New York City to pursue my career. I had no idea what to expect! When I moved to NYC I didn’t know anybody. If I never took the risk to move to the big Apple I would not be where I am today.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Becoming a full time model in New York isn’t easy! Before moving to New York, I wish someone told me about having a bigger portfolio. If your from a small town wanting to make the move to a big city to model, my advice is to shoot with tons of different photographers before moving. The first 6 months in New York I had to work as a receptionist at a hair salon. Then, I started to go to open calls, to different agencies to try and get signed. Finally, I got signed to my first modeling and acting agency. When I was on set, I would network with everyone! When I would network, not only would I grow my social media following, but they would refer me to other clients for other bookings. Now it’s been 2 years living in New York, I model full time and I’m signed with 5 agencies. Being in this industry is not easy! You need to learn how to keep your head high when your not booked for a job. My challenge in my career is my height, I am 5’6. A lot of agencies and clients have accepted different heights and body types, but some are still stuck on the 5”9 typical model standards. Due to this I wanted to start my own agency to help other models make there dreams come true. I started a agency called “Queen Castings.” We represent all body types, ethnicities, and sizes. We want to make all body types feel like a Queen. Throughout my journey I have modeled for Marc Jacob’s Fragrance, Black Pyramid (Chris Browns Brand), Target, Sephora, Walmart, featured in Vogue and had multiple billboards in Times Square. With my own talent agency I was able to book my models for NYFW, Target, Dope or Nope, Canva, Power Up Snacks, and tons more!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
First I would make sure my BFF is settled in her hotel before the exciting weekend. Then I would take her to my favorite breakfast spot in Upper East Side called “EJ’s Luncheonette. From there, I would take her to see the iconic Times Square. After that I would get us tickets to see a Broadway Show. After, we would go to Bryant Park & grab some dessert waffles with ice cream for a snack! Then, we would take a Uber to Dumbo in Brooklyn to see the beautiful scenery and take tons of pictures! Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to give a huge shout out to my family for supporting me, and helping me make the move to New York 2 years ago. Without there love and support, I wouldn’t be able to survive the first 6 months living in New York. I also want to shout out my fiancé Ammar Rowaid. He is a photographer here in NYC and helps me a ton with creating content for brands.
