We had the good fortune of connecting with Savoy Sullivan and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Savoy, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Starting my own practice has been a dream of mine since veterinary school. I started my career in traditional veterinary clinics and couldn’t ignore how stressful and overwhelming clinic visits could be for both pets and their families. While the development of Fear Fear protocols has greatly improved this experience, I couldn’t help but ask myself “is there more we could be doing?”

I wanted to remove the stress of the waiting room entirely – the smells, the sounds and the anxiety that our pets are so sensitive to. Bringing pet care straight to people’s homes – where our animals feel safest – felt like the perfect solution.

A stress-free and safe environment for pets and their families became the foundation of The Vet Next Door. We’re rooted in kindness, high-quality medicine, and a commitment to building deeper, more meaningful relationships with our patients and the people who love them.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
The Vet Next Door is a private and locally owned business – which means we pride ourselves on the unique and personalized relationships we can sustain with our clients and their pets. We plan to keep our business small – and never go corporate. We want us to feel like your friendly neighborhood, vet next door.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
As a mother of 3 cats and two dogs – I’m an enthusiast of anything pet friendly! I’d start us off with a morning romp at Rosie’s Dog beach in Long Beach. Then we’ll head back to the city and grab coffee and breakfast at Dogtown Coffee in Santa Monica – don’t skip their Salty Dog iced coffee! Then we’ll do some shopping at Century City mall – a great dog friendly outdoor mall with plenty of luxury shopping. Afterwords we’ll catch happy hour at Golden Road Brewing – also known as “Puppy Hour” -where they donate proceeds to local rescues.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to give a huge shoutout to the veterinary community. This field is full of some of the most hardworking and dedicated people I know. To the invaluable and selfless veterinary nurses, the knowledgeable and emotionally intelligent client care representatives, and my fellow veterinarians – your impact is lasting. Veterinary medicine can be both incredibly rewarding and emotionally taxing – and I am so proud to be a part of a community that continues to show up for both animals and for each other.
