Meet Scott Page-Pagter | Winemaker & Musician

We had the good fortune of connecting with Scott Page-Pagter and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Scott, maybe we can start at the very start – the idea – how did you come up with the idea for your business?
I really enjoy a great glass of wine, so after a lot of “research”, I, like a lot of winemakers, thought there had to be a way to get paid to drink wine. So I decided to make my own, and with my brothers help, we started Pagter Brothers Winery. Still haven’t found the way to make any money yet, but we’re on the way!
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
As a winemaker, I started making wine in 2007 with a good friend. He was the brains of the outfit, as well as a great winemaker. I was the nose, mouth and vision, as well as a co-winemaker. I really learned the art of making wine and how to get the tastes out of the grapes for what I enjoyed the most. When I started Pagter Brothers Winery, I decided to make big bold California wines and if people didn’t like my style, my brother and I’d have a lot of wine to drink. Luckily people really do enjoy it and we’ve sold out of every vintage so far. I started in the entertainment business, first trying to be a rock star, then a film and television composer, then a sound guy who became a Producer, one of my shows was The Power Rangers (first 10 seasons). Then a Toy guy at Mattel and now, as well as a winemaker, I direct voices for different movies and TV shows for Netflix and others. So I have had a very creative life that has fit right into winemaking.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
There are so many! Up by our winery and tasting room, for food I send people to the Newhall Junction, Le Chene and Noche Azul for dinners, the Egg Plantation and Nealie’s Skillet for breakfast. I love Sushi in little Tokyo, the beach in Ventura and Malibu. Wineries in Paso Robles & Santa Barbara. Scuba Diving on Catalina or a local dive boat. We’re so lucky to be able to scuba dive and ski in the same day here. Soooo much to do and see,
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Besides my brother, Gib, and my Parents, I need to shout out to my wife Sidney. She’s my rock and has helped me out with the wine making process since we started the winery. My good friend Carol Hoyt, who I met while producing, directing and doing voices for Power Rangers, started making wine right before I did. We’ve done a lot of this journey together. She’s helped me with grapes and friendship!
