Meet Sean Alan Mazur | Actor & Recording Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Sean Alan Mazur and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sean Alan, what role has risk played in your life or career?
There’s that saying “you miss 100% of the shots you don’t take.” That’s stuck with me for the past couple years. A little backstory,, I joined the Air Force when I was 17 in order to eventually pay for college. I never planned to go to a drama school but I did intend to study something industry adjacent like production. I ended up receiving an email from the American Academy of Dramatic Arts and thought to myself, why not audition. After being accepted and coming near the end of my initial Air Force contract, I was presented with the choice of packing up my life mid pandemic and moving to Los Angeles or signing on for a few more years of stability and moving to Alaska. Then in July of 2020 I got into a car accident that I shouldn’t have survived let alone walk away from. I had bought that car specifically for Alaska. So I took that as a sign and began prepping for Los Angeles. Life’s too short and if I hadn’t made that decision I’d be far my the achievements I’ve made so far and I wouldn’t have met the influential people I have in my life at this moment.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I pride myself on being a multi hyphenate. I just like having a foot in everything and there’s so much more I want to do eventually such as directing. As of now my main focus is acting and working on music as well. I really want to start doing live performances music wise so I’m working on a body of work that would make for a great show as my initial songs from my debut EP are relatively sad. I feel that with each song I get better as an artist and I could say that for each role I take on in the acting realm as well. I was recently accepted into a program called Creative Futures Collective that is in collaboration with the Soho House. We are all matched with a mentor and it’s a 16 week program. Currently we’re about a month in and my life has already been changed exponentially. This goes back to the risk taking, when I came across the instagram ad I could have ignored it but if I had I would be in a different place at the moment telling a different story. I feel as if I have a lot of drive and perseverance because of my background and being in the foster care system. I’ve always been told that I have to work ten times harder because of the color of my skin and that’s what I do. I’m also just passionate about the work, i’m all in beginning to end. I’ve taken life detours, been financially rocky and have had devastating family events happen within the last four years but I haven’t left that deter me. There’s always a way and it’s clear that i’m on the path intended for me. I’m not a quitter and I will never give up this dream I have cause honestly it’s starting to look a lot like reality.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
On my first visit to LA three years ago, my first stop was the Santa Monica Pier. I actually haven’t had the chance to ride any of the rides so that’s definitely something we’d do together. Then in reminiscence of my first trip we’d also spend a day at Universal! Mario World and Jurassic World are top of the list since I haven’t been to either but right after my favorite, Harry Potter World! We’d definitely have to have a meal at one of the Soho Houses, maybe Warehouse so we can relax by the rooftop pool afterwards and watch the sunset. I’ve lived here two years and haven’t been to the Griffith Observatory or walked/shopped on Rodeo drive so that is a must. A morning hike in Runyon Canyon sounds amazing and we can stop by Kreation after and get smoothies. There’s also this spot in Glendale that I go to when I need to clear my head. It happens to be on the grounds of the Forest Lawn Cemetery but it’s not creepy at all. There’s this small labyrinth on the ground that typically takes me about five minutes to walk. However, those five minutes turn out to be such profound experiences for me and I encourage anyone to check it out. Next, my friends and I tend to get together for a game night and drinks so that’s a must do. Then we have to see a production of some sort, check out a concert or go to an after to top it all off, but most importantly go to a small cafe and catch up.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Without a doubt I owe so much to Loft Ensemble and its creator Adam Chambers. Adam was one of my teachers at AADA and came to see me in my first theater production post graduation. We had a conversation about joining loft and at the beginning of this year (2023) I joined the Loft Ensemble family. Immediately I jumped in to assist with an incredible show called Katrina written by LaDarrion Williams. As that came to an end, an audition notice was sent out for the hilarious comedy “Missed Opportunities” written by Jillian Leff. I had to audition as I felt it was a role that i’d never done before and in my actual age bracket. The show was phenomenal and made me more confident with my abilities especially in the comedy realm. After this I had promised myself to take a break from theater as I had been doing back to back shows since August 2022 and it was now April of 2023 but Loft sent out auditions for the next show. And after reading the play, I fell in love with the lead role which I ended up landing. Because of opportunities Loft provided me with, my now management team/family was able to see me perform two different characters in two different genres as “Behind the Six” by Dan Perry is a 1940’s crime noir and sign me partially based off those productions. I’m eternally grateful.
