We had the good fortune of connecting with Sean Carson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sean, how do you think about risk?
The word “risk” is often associated with fear and danger. I’ve always tried to keep an open mind with respect to the fact. Everything we do in life comes with risk. The best risk to take is always a calculated one.

In my career i’ve taken many risk. Things like trusting people, leaving jobs, to signing contracts, or even moving to a new state. What comes on the other side of these decisions isn’t always sweet, but always comes with an interesting story. I’m blessed by the experiences that my risks have introduced. To give an idea of the power of my risks, I’m originally from a city of about 14,000. In Los Angeles where I live today, that fits in about 2 square miles.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’ve been singing for about 30 years, with R&B Soul being my discipline for the past 20. My musical journey began in the late 80s when I was introduced to Gospel music as a small child. My grandmother instilled faith in us at Bethlehem Baptist Church, a historical landmark in Terrell, Texas. The music at the church was instrumental in my growth.

What sets me apart is my unique story, filled with risks and rewards, ebbs and flows. Reaching where I am today professionally has required consistency, persistence, prayer, and blessings from beautiful people. Some milestones in life can only be achieved with time and experience. I’ve overcome many challenges in both music and life by understanding who I am and what that means. My faith, family, and close friends keep me grounded in that identity. Even in moments when I don’t feel like myself, inspiration to remember who I am is all around me.

Along the way, I’ve learned the importance of setting goals, planning, and executing them. I’ve realized that relying on others for things I can do myself is a limitation. If that means learning multiple professional disciplines, then I crack open a “How To” and gift myself the knowledge. Never stop learning!

I want people to never give up on themselves or their ambitions. “My Brand” and “My Story” are about finding yourself as a seed and growing into a tree. Everyone’s journey to becoming is a blessing. The true perspectives of our yesterdays and today shape tomorrow’s reality. As an artist, my intention is to be innovative and timeless. My goal is to continue singing and mentoring while scaling growth in the music business (syncs, touring, artist development) and embracing ownership in mind.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
It all depends on who’s visiting, but I always make sure they have the best time. Here’s how we’d roll for a week: We’d kick things off with a dope dinner at a beachside spot, enjoying fresh seafood and ocean views to set the right tone. The next day, we’d hit the beach to catch some rays and maybe a wave or two, then head to Venice Beach for some basketball where “White Men Can’t Jump” went down with Wesley Snipes and Woody Harrelson. For the third day, depending on their style, we’d either hit high-fashion boutiques or go thrifting for some vintage gems—I know all the spots. A Hollywood flex is a must, so we’d check out the Hollywood Sign and, if we’re lucky, slide into the Magic Castle for some exclusive vibes.

Later in the week, we’d chill at some beach bars, sip drinks with a view, and then hit up the Comedy Store for laughs. With some connects at the Improv, we might catch a show there too. We’d spend another day exploring local gems, those hidden spots only the real ones know about, and wrap up with a laid-back dinner and a beach stroll. Finally, we’d have an easy breakfast at a cool café, spend the day reflecting on the week, and maybe revisit a favorite spot before it’s time to bounce. Whatever we do, it’s all about good vibes, big laughs, and great food. This plan keeps it real with iconic spots, local joints, and plenty of time to chill and enjoy the moment.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’d like to dedicate this Shoutout to my family and close friends. The best parts of who I am are a reflection of the love and support I’ve received from them. Time goes by fast, and when faced with the mountains of “life,” it’s comforting to remember that we aren’t climbing alone. While we’re each on our own paths, we never truly walk them alone. My sisters, brothers, and cousins bring me absolute joy, and their encouragement and love have been instrumental in my journey.
