We had the good fortune of connecting with Sean Costello and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sean, how do you think about risk?
Anyone who chooses to be self-employed is taking a risk. It provides a lot of freedom, but it’s also a lot of work. I grew up in Cincinnati, but the kind of work I wanted to do wasn’t available at the level I wanted; so I moved to Miami Beach and then Los Angeles. Each time I moved, I didn’t have much money or contacts, but I was willing to take risks.  My life working as a photographer has been filled with amazing experiences. I’ve always believed that taking smart risks can lead to new opportunities that will potentially open new doors. It’s like an adventure filled with uncertainty and a little fear of the unknown; but without taking risks, I wouldn’t continue to move forward.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Working as a self employed photographer is not easy, but I love it. Hard work, determination, perseverance, learning from others and having fun have helped me to overcome the challenges.

No matter what the project is, I want the client to be happy with the results and I always try to do whatever it takes to achieve that goal.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Thank you to all the photographers, producers and crew whom I’ve worked with over the years.

To name a few: Jim Wright, Lance Staedler, Robert Houser, Andrew Eccles, Christian Weber, Roy Zipstein, Aaron Okayama, Screaming Broccoli, Michael Gulde (Digitaleague), Dawn Hoffman
