Meet Sean Flores | Self taught artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Sean Flores and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sean, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
Taking risks is very necessary when trying to get to the next level. I took the risk to quit my day job and went full fledge with art. Never looked back since. If it wasn’t for my risk taking I’d still be working a 9-5
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
There’s no secret to success as an artist. It’s really all about how much time you’re willing to put in as well as know you know in the industry.
I quickly made the right connections with people who helped motivate and inspire me to go even harder.
What’s helps me overcome my challenges is knowing and focusing on the light at the end of a dark tunnel. Growing up watching people party/do drugs and then watching all of them grow sick and ill is really what made a difference in who I was and what I cared about. I want the world to know that know matter how down and out you are. There will always be a way to succeed as long as you are willing to go for it.
What sets me apart from the rest is my worth ethic, use of vibrant bright patterns with a twist of graffiti and most importantly my story. Watching both my parents pass slowly is not a pill most can swallow and even I still battle the emotions but success is what keeps me focused.
As for me, I started off painting custom shoes such as Air Force ones, vans and timberlands. I lived in the Bay Area and many of my clients were in the cannabis industry so I made great connections early on.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
So let’s imagine it’s a nice beautiful sunny day….
Starting off the day with nice early morning wake n bake before we make our way on down to “Hot 8 yoga” studio. We’d then take part in a hour long kickass sculpt class to get the morning started.
After that we’d go right down the block and grab the best breakfast burrito in all of Los Angeles from the one and only “wake and late”.
After eating we’d go get ready and suited up to hit the shooting range and spend a few hours training for a zombie apocalypse. Lol
After that we’re probably going to Astor Club to relax and unwind over some dabs and get ready for a good dinner.
After spending some time at Astor club we would cruise down the block to Toca Madera and grab a delicious meal and some great drinks.
If we still have energy and the vibe is right then we may just hit a club after and dance the night away at poppy, playhouse, or if we feeling ratchet a whole dif type of club lol
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Everything I’ve done I did alone basically . No big names backing me, no big investors, no real family that backed my vision, very minimal friends cause let’s be real artists are stuck inside in the studio all day and night. Both my parents have passed away as well my many other direct family members.
The only person I truly owe a shoutout to is my wife because she has been with me since I had literally nothing and she has helped me grow into a better person all around.
Shoutout to my Dad for buying me spray paint as a little kid tho, that was a game changer for my life.
