We had the good fortune of connecting with Sean James and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sean, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
My original thought process on creating my own business was so that I could provide the customer service that I like to provide, and that I have been trained to do, and know so well, After working at FRED SEGAL and Santa Monica for over 27 years I have learned so much about customer service and the quality that people are looking for .
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
In my professional life I consider myself a professional artist, I focus on color /hair cutting and styling, I also work in film and television and do wigs and work with men’s make up,, I love working in commercials my latest one is a Super Bowl commercial that is coming out with Eugene Levy keep your eye out for it, TV shows one of them is Talking Dead with Chris Hardwick the other one is the wall on NBC ,
To work on the shows Not only do I have my hairdressing license which I have for Australia and America/California,you need to do many courses, Learning about gender diversity ,inclusion, and what is acceptable in the workplace, I have passed all of my certifications and I’m also in the local 706 hair and make up artists guild I have shot over 1000 episodes of television, and worked with many celebrities Helping them develop looks and character looks for their different movies etc.
the most recent being knives out with Jamie Lee Curtis and also working on her media for Halloween kills, and we are preparing for the release of Halloween Ends later on this year in October, ,
I want to make sure that you also know about my product line called beachblvd.co It is originally a hair care product but during the pandemic we stopped making the hair care and just focused on the fantastic hand sanitizers that we developed, these are 100% made in the USA made in conjunction with the doctor, and laboratory in El Segundo. They are made with essential oils Lavender Bergamont and lemon is our first one or second one is made with caramel orchid and jasmine it smells amazing and made with the highest grade alcohol that possibly could be used ,Check them out there really fantastic I’m not just saying that ,we are about to come out with a brush line in the next few months, but the biggest announcement that we have is we are doing a collaboration with Jamie Lee Curtis and her charity called “My hand in yours”, Where she has Artisans create goods to connect with loved ones We have donated Over 1000 of sanitizers that we made specifically for her and Created a unique lavender essential oil
sanitizer just for her brand also 100% of the profits to go to the Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, these are limited edition and will be on her website my handinyours.com They should be available at the end of February

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
So this question about where I would take a guest is pretty easy because I just have had a house guest for a week so her first initial tour was down to the South Bay where we had a fantastic brunch at “good stuff Burger “on the beach front in Hermosa beach right on the strand near the sand there’s easy public parking in the big garage and electric charger there too .get there early . We went into Hollywood and had dinner at yamishiro my favorite place to see the city thane walked and did the stars on Hollywood Blvd, There’s nothing more Hollywood thing going to see Marilyn Monroe’s grave in Westwood, it’s a unique thing to do ,but there’s something that I just love about being able to do that.. We did Venice Beach and walked along the boulevard the next day we had breakfast that morning at J Nichols in Marina Del Rey There’s nothing bad on that menu everything is absolutely delicious,,
Of course I bought my guest into Matthew Preece Salon, and gave her the experience of a lifetime having her hair done with me, she had highlights color and haircut
We went to the movie theaters in Marina Del Rey and had it in dining experience in the theater there, the next day was a rest day and then Saturday morning we went to Malibu pier and went to the farm for brunch the drive down the coast is so gorgeous, rain ,hail or shine I love driving down the PCH, we ended the day at Malibu having a smoothie at Sun Life at Cross Creek ,a great place to see the locals surfers in their own habitat and do a little shopping , on the way back we stopped on Montana Ave and did a little shopping for some Malabeads she was on the hunt for and found at Ele Keats https://elekeats.com/ A great way to end the day . Sunday was spent at the beach And then a walk around abbot Kinney and stopped Add Abbott’s pizza for a slice of salad pizza something I’ve been enjoying for the last 25 years
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
The person that was most influential in my career was Vidal Sassoon and an Irishman by the name of Oscar Cullinan he owns Oscar Oscar salons in Australia,, And he was my mentor, and taught me everything I know, when it comes to Hollywood and having a sense of grace and self acceptance, I would have to say Jamie Lee Curtis is my biggest influence She has taught me so much about life in general ,
