We had the good fortune of connecting with Sergio Cazares and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sergio, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I have always been drawn to the creative side of life ever since my college days. In college, I always enjoyed 3D sculpting and classes where I was engaged hands-on in creating something. When the pandemic hit, I had a lot of free time in my hands while being stuck at home, and during that time I was able to perfect recipes for air purifying candles that were nontoxic and didn’t make my head hurt. My partner loves to burn candles but a lot of candles have chemicals in them that make my head hurt. I wanted to find a way to burning candles and enjoy them and it would be a plus if they had an added benefit. So I came up with beeswax candles which as it turns out beeswax is a natural air purifier so I was serving two purposes here. Soon I was making great smelling beeswax candles and skincare products so that’s when I decided to start my own business.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Sweet Sesh LLC began with a vision of providing something to engage with other individuals over. First, we started out as The Sweet Sesh Podcast talking about all kinds of different topics to share and converse with. Our goal was to give people topics and things to talk about with others in their life in person and make personal connections. From the podcast, our candle and skin care product lines were born as a way to pay for the podcast itself. We wanted to have merchandise that made a difference in peoples lives and air purifying candles were the way to go. What we want people to know about our brand is that we care. We care about making connections outside of your phone or internet but instead connections with people. We care about your health and well being so we provide the best products possible like air purifying candles, lotion bars and lip balms. We want you to know that Sweet Sesh is not only a podcast or candles but an experience.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
There is so much to do in the city from eating to drinking to having fun. If my friend was in town and wanted me to show them around I would show them all of the open-air markets we have. From Hollywood Artisan Market to flea markets everywhere we have the best selection. I would take them to Cafe Aficionado LA for the best breakfast burrito and coffee in town! Take them to Saulitos BBQ for the best BBQ! We would top all of that off with Batter Up Churros and their amazing churro sundaes!!! So good. We would also spend a lot of time down by Santa Monica and all of their music by the water events they have as well as movies.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There are so many people who deserve the credit for helping me in this adventure but two very specific people come to mind when I think of how this all started. Firstly, my partner Zafira, without her encouragement to keep going and always reminding me how all those long sleepless nights would turn into exactly what we wanted and needed. A strong support system is always needed.
Secondly, I would like to thank Abby and Reggie from Cafe Aficionado LA who gave us our first opportunity to have our very first pop-up ever and encouraged and supported us in starting this adventure. We took that opportunity in stride and have not looked back since.
