We had the good fortune of connecting with Sergio Chavez and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sergio, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
The idea of working in career path that wasn’t giving me the ability to be creative in any way gives me anxiety. I always knew from a young age that the corporate America world was just not for me. I feel the most free and happy when I am being artistic whether that is through my work or in general with everything I do.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I feel like my art is different from others whether that’s from the angles that i take them from or the hidden meanings behind them. I tend to put conceptual meanings behind my work that associates with how I’m feeling at the moment. Ranging from feeling alone to feeling on top of the world. I’m nowhere near where i want to be professionally speaking, I am still growing and leaning everyday. I want the world to know that I’m still young and can tend to doubt myself and I’ve learned that that’s okay because its apart of the process of life. One thing people should always do is to go for it.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Well, I don’t go out as much as i could but i have a few spots in mind. If you are into the nightlife and to socialize with others, i would recommend downtown Sacramento. This is where all the bars and clubs are at. This is where you’ll meet the people who tell you that you’re beautiful in the bathroom while washing your hands. To eat, my favorite place is a Mexican restaurant called Mayas, its delicious and the drinks are bomb. A nice place away from all that i would say is the Consumes reserve, this is where you can go and be alone and gather your thoughts away from people.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I know this might sound corny but i have to shout out my mom for always encouraging me to do what makes me happy whether that was wearing a certain outfit or just dreaming big. I also would like to thank all my close friends who have supported my work by either sharing my work or have helped me on certain projects. I also want to thank the old friends who even though we might not be as close as before I appreciate what they have done for me.
