We had the good fortune of connecting with Sergio Pelayo and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sergio, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
Every entrepreneur knows that risk is necessary when starting a new Business/Project. But risk is not something I personally think should be taken lightly, which is why I use my number one rule when it comes to taking risks. The rule of balance, weighing out the advantages over disadvantages and making sure they line up with my purpose. Risk-taking is something that is in my daily life, given that for me to position myself as the leader in the cleaning industry is not easy. Many people have judged me for the risks I have taken to get to where I am today, saying they were reckless or unnecessary, but it is because of those risks that I consider myself a real entrepreneur. One of the biggest decisions I have made in order to accomplish my purpose is having taken the choice to move temporarily to the peninsula of Yucatan. My favorite thing to say when people ask me why I made that choice is, “You wouldn’t understand.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
What I think sets me apart from others is that hunger for accomplishing my purposes in life. In my journey, one of the things I am most proud of is my ability to unravel myself in the cleaning industry, whether it be numbers or strategies in the moment of creating a business or winning a contract. It has not been easy positioning myself as a Latino Cleaning Industry Influencer, but if it was easy anyone would have done it by now. I am a very active person, and when it comes to overcoming challenges, meditating or taking a walk has not been the solution for me, but what has been working well for me is lifting my standards in the moment I face whether it be a problem or challenge. One of the biggest lessons I have learned is to trust more in my decision taking, which in the long run increases my self confidence. I strongly believe that the cleaning industry offers an opportunity for anyone that wishes to start from zero, not mattering that they don’t count on a college degree, investment capital, or business expertise. My purpose with “Es My Cleaning Business” is to make that a reality, which is already happening in varios States in the USA and in the near future will happen in Latin America too.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
When it comes to enjoying the day with a friend visiting the City of LA, first thing is first, travel to East LA to enjoy a great meal and for me that is Mariscos also known as seafood, being more specific a delicious dish of “Aguachiles.” When it comes to nighttime travel to Downtown LA to enjoy whether it be a nice restaurant/bar. (And if someone told me that there aren’t many places to choose from, I would say you haven’t explored the city to its fullest) There are many must-see places in LA, like some of the following: Hollywood Blvd or The Walk of Fame, The Getty Center, Venice Beach, La Brea Tar Pits, and more. Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I think every entrepreneur should have someone on their side, whether it be someone to talk to or rely on in many ways. In my case, I believe I have been fortunate to have by my side my wife, which has always been there no matter what risks I take.
