Meet Shadia Martin: Actor

We had the good fortune of connecting with Shadia Martin and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Shadia, can you share a quote or affirmation with us?
It might sound corny, but one of my favorite movies is A Cinderella Story with Hilary Duff. The main quote from that movie is “Never let the fear of striking out keep you from playing the game.” That always sticks with me. I love how simple, but powerful that quote is. Fear is definitely my biggest achilles’ heel and every day I try to remind myself that although the fear will always be there, it should never – and will never – get in the way of my dreams.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’m definitely still finding my way through this crazy journey, but what I’m most proud of is all that I have accomplished on my own. Almost everything I’ve done has been from finding work on my own. Most recently, I appeared in a global ad for Samsung and the way it happened was so random and serendipitous. I didn’t have an agent, I wasn’t in the union, but luck was on my side and after years of submitting and getting no response, I was at the right place at the right time. This plus other unexpected opportunities have shown me how important it is to keep an open mind. You never know what could be just around the corner if you just keep persevering and believing in yourself – and trust me, it can be really hard and it will require tons of patience! But if you don’t give up, life may just surprise you. I want the world to know that they haven’t seen anything yet. This is just the beginning and I’m so excited to continue to inspire and be inspired!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
One of my favorite places is Manhattan Beach so we would definitely have to start there and take in all the beautiful ocean air. I would take her to my favorite Mexican restaurant – Casita Del Campo in Silverlake and have some dank sweet corn tamales.
I love doing little photoshoots, so we’d have to go to Vasquez Rocks and have that beautiful backdrop.
We’d take a walk around Lake Hollywood and then skate around the Autry.
Definitely go to Takami Sushi in Downtown – that view at magic hour is to die for.
And then we’d end it with a overlook maybe up Mt. Wilson to take it all in.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’d like to give a shoutout my dad for all the love and support he has given me throughout my journey. Whether it was pushing me to train, helping me move to pursue my dreams, or reminding me with a daily phone call that I am exactly where I need to be; he has always been there and has always believed in me even when I couldn’t see it myself. Thank you so much Benny, I love you!
