We had the good fortune of connecting with Shae Smolik and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Shae, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
As a young child I have always been an extrovert and believed that life was my personal stage! My mother has told me that I never knew a stranger even as a baby and when she took me to the grocery store it took her much longer than when she didn’t because I would talk to every person I saw in the aisles while riding in the shopping cart. I believe that extrovert mentality really led me to a life of being on stage as an actress and performing as a Country singer. I have always loved Country music and acting is just an amazing way to escape reality and build different characters which I love.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My first love is acting! I have been acting since age 8 when I moved to Los Angeles with my mother and a few months after I arrived I booked a Tide National TV commercial and was immediately SAG eligible. The road to LA came from my agent, Steve Myers, in Iowa who told me I had a lot of talent and needed to go to a bigger city like LA or New York where they have more opportunities. We discussed it as a family and made the move. I then found a manager and an agent and began booking other films as a lead actress and supporting as well as TV shows such as Criminal Minds, The Chi, The Sandman, Play by Play etc. The acting life is always a roller coaster. The highs of getting the audition, receiving a call back, getting pinned for the role and booking the role vs the lows of that process when the end result is you get released and don’t book it.
My second love is a Country Music Singer. I have always loved Country music and since I love to be on stage and performing I started singing and songwriting. I currently have 5 original songs on all streaming services and I am a verified artists on Spotify. I have 3 music videos out now and plan on writing more songs and performing live at more venues. I will be playing at the Federal in North Hollywood in August!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Well first we would definitely hit up the Waveland for some great breakfast then we would get on our boat and go to Saylorville Lake to visit party cove. Then climb on the jetski and go check out the Marina and beaches to see if any of my friends are there. After the lake we would have to show them the best pizza and it is from a gas station…Casey’s pizza.

I would really want them to visit during August when we have the Iowa State Fair which is ranked one of the best state fairs in the Country. We would get the fried cheese curds, corndogs, and amazing Barksdale cookies as well as lemonade! Of course we would visit all the animal barns and watch some horse shows too. At night we would go see a Country concert at the Grand Stand!

We would also have a little party in my back yard with my friends at my pool and get some Panchero’s Mexican food and some smoothies from Hyper!

If we needed some new clothes for the concert we could hit up Jordan Creek Town center especially Von Maur department store!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would definitely say a shout out goes to my mom and dad. They have sacrificed so much time and effort on letting me pursue my career. My mom quit her job and has lived with me for months at a time in Los Angeles for acting while my dad and brothers stayed back home in Iowa. My parents strive to let all their children achieve their dreams no matter what. They give me encouragement when I need it most because the ups and downs of being an actress can be tough.

I also have a great agent with Brad Diffley from Mavrick Artists that has been with me for years and has always believed in my talent. My manager Darci Price has also helped me navigate the world of acting!
