We had the good fortune of connecting with Shane LaLonde and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Shane, what’s the most important lesson your business/career has taught you?
The most important lesson my business/career has taught me is how Important Relationships are to a business. Business relationships, Family relationships, and Customer relationships will ultimately create your path. A good idea, hard work, and a quality product are important, but it is also your relationships that help you get your ideas to actuality.
The most important relationship to the success of my business now, is the relationship with my customers. I am ever grateful for such supportive and amazing customers who enjoy what we do, show up for our events, give us positive feedback, and recommend The Sew Chateau to their friends. Everything we do here is built for our customers. So we feel ever grateful when it all works and our customers are happy.
What should our readers know about your business?
The Sew Chateau offers a place to gather at a table with friends (or make new friends) and learn to Sew. With sewing we make practical everyday items including clothing, accessories, and gifts for others. Designing, creating and bringing something to life and structure is a process that is FUN. Having fun and enjoying time together is one of our main goals. We want to make it a good experience for our guests, while they learn the greatly useful and practical skill of sewing.
It is incredibly rewarding to dress yourself in cloths you made, fix a hem, make gifts for friends, or make safe keeping masks for your family.
The creative possibilities are endless, and we are always creating new projects to keep it fresh and fun. Since the pandemic started we have not been able host in person classes so our focus has shifted to bringing the sewing projects home to you and our guests. I am excited for the launch of
“The Sew Chateau To Go”.
Project Kits, Party Favors, and a monthly subscription box starting in March.
These Kits and subscription boxes will be available at TheSewChateau.com
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If a friend was visiting for a week I would take them to some of the local art museums, maybe starting with the Getty. The tram ride is a bonus.
A day at the beach for sure, sunbathing, and surfing.
The Observatory offers great views of the city. Maybe hike up to the Hollywood sign.
The Grove, Farmers Market and Dupar’s for sure.
Malibu Farm and pier for lunch, explore the mart, and stop by Aviator Nation on the way.
Golden Bull for dinner in Pacific Palisades. Walk the Venice Canals for sure, and Abbott Kinney for shopping and great restaurants.
Pretty much art, eat, shop, sun, repeat.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My children are a big inspiration to me. I would like for them to be proud of me and see that it’s good to try things, and follow your instincts. My husband Larry has always supported me in all that I do. The day I tried out for Price is Right he said, “your going to get it”, and I did. The day the space I dreamed of opening
The Sew Chateau came available, I wanted to “think about it”, and he said “go get it!”
If ever I begin to over think things he reminds me to GO FOR IT.
Also, going back to relationships, the relationships of my friends has played a major roll for me. There have been times I needed more help than I had, and I am so grateful for my closest friends Ona Barnett, Amanda Rastagar, Nicola Buck, Angie Quigly and my son Sage who have all jumped in here and saved the day when either an employee couldn’t show for a party, or I needed photos, or help running customer relations, or summer camps! I am grateful to such amazing friends and family.
