Meet Shanna Waddell: Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Shanna Waddell and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Shanna, we’d love to hear what makes you happy.
My garden and walks to the beach make me happy. These spaces keep me present and allow me to play and relax.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My art has an experimental spirit. I look to visionaries and aspirational communities as research to pattern and base my artistic practice. My primary pursuit in art has been exploring utopic possibilities that have brought on bodies of work that memorializes fallen religious cults, such as heavens gate, satan, and superstars. My current work looks to female forms of modality to embody and act out utopian visions of art-making as key to a possible community.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I recently moved to coastal San Pedro. This area has dramatically influenced my art. As quarantine set in the local parks and beaches has been a safe haven to explore and do Plein Air painting. I live right in the middle of Cabrillo Beach, Sunkin City, Point Fermin Park, and the Korean Friendship Bell Park. I recommend coming down and get out to get some fresh air and enjoy the views.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to dedicate this shoutout to all the female and less represented artists whose life works may go unrecognized. Your efforts are not unfelt and seen.
