We had the good fortune of connecting with Shannon Horgan and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Shannon, what do you attribute your success to?
I think communication with my clients is key. I prioritize frequent check-ins to make sure they are happy every step of the way. I don’t take for granted that the projects we embark on together are often big emotional and financial investments, with lots of decisions and moving pieces. I like to make the process as fun and effortless as I possibly can, and make sure we always remain on the same page. My business is built on my clients, and their happiness is the cornerstone of my success.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?

Since I was young, I have always been self-motivated and imagined myself running my own business with creative freedom. I wanted to couple wellness and design; two things that I am very passionate about. My business has a focus specifically on native plants and non-toxic materials, furniture, and fixtures with long life cycles. I wanted my business to be rooted in conscious design that supports sustainability, health, and wellbeing. Naming my business Sow Home was a representation of sowing the seeds of creativity and intention into each space.

I love this work because I find it both energizing and rewarding to nurture meaningful relationships. As an interior and landscape designer, I get to participate in what are usually big milestones in people’s lives, such as moving to a new city, buying a new home, or growing their family. I want to make these transitions enjoyable and easy for people. I hoped that in starting my business, I could positively impact the wellbeing of people, and the ability to make that difference remains the most exciting part of what I do.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’m big on getting up and moving first thing in the morning to set the tone for the day. I would probably recommend starting our days with either a hike in the Santa Monica mountains, going for a surf, or taking a yoga or pilates class.
Depending on the day, I’d love to take them to matcha or coffee at Love Coffee Bar, or breakfast somewhere delicious, as there are no shortage of good restaurants and cafes around. Stopping by Tartine in Santa Monica one morning would be a must. I’m sure we would probably find ourselves on the beach, walking or riding bikes around Santa Monica and Venice, or taking a cruise up the coast. I love to introduce friends visiting to our close group of friends in LA, so I’d probably host a barbeque at our house at some point that week. Those are hands down my favorite types of nights.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I feel so fortunate to have always been supported and lifted up by my incredible family and wonderful friends. Those people who have been encouraging of my dreams and ideas have given me the confidence to go out and chase them.
