Meet Shannon K | Singer/actor

We had the good fortune of connecting with Shannon K and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Shannon, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I’ve always been surrounded by music. Music had helped me in so many ways especially mentally and spiritually. We don’t realize the value and power that music holds. It heals us all and that was one of the reasons why I wanted to peruse my career in music.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I started my music career with singing at cafe shops and restaurants Later on I got the opportunity to work with Poo Bear on a beautiful track called “A Long Time” which was my debut
After that I worked with many amazing producers such as Kyle Townsend on an antibulling song called “Give Me Your Hand”
One of the struggles of being Indian is that it’s very stigmatized. There’s a lot of misconceptions because we haven’t gotten the opportunity to present ourselves as anything but the stereotypes in movies or tv etc but it’s something you have to deal with and move on. Being an Indie artist actually gives you a lot of creative freedom but it’s still a part of the same industry that stigmatizes your race so it’s conflicting but you have to just get over it. My experience is just that. You know they see your color and they’ve already formed an opinion based on that but I’m not there to find out what they think about me. I’m a creative person who depends on creativity. If we’re making music, we’re making music. If we’re filming, we’re filming. What you think about me apart from whether I’m a nice person or not, isn’t a big concern to me anymore. It used to be. It used to matter a lot. But it doesn’t anymore.
Don’t fall into any traps. Waiting is a hell of pain so just be patient during those testing times. Do not change or lose yourself in this game. Keep holding on to your true self. Do not compare yourself to anyone else’s success coz everyone’s journey and success is different to one another. Instead polish your skills and explore yourself further down. Keep your mental health in check that is extremely important. Be happy, stay happy. Always help others as karma is a real thing and it surely will gives you what you deserve.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would certainly take my bestie down to The Grove which is an awesome spot for shopping food and movie time! I then would take my bestie for a nice lunch at the BLVD restaurant
It’s my go to place and right opposite of it is the famous rodeo drive!
Gotta take my bestie there!
And to end the tour we would enjoy the evening by Santa Monica beach and enjoy watching the sunset.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I wanna dedicate this shoutout to my parents and sister. They have been the pillars and my biggest supporters throughout my journey. I cannot thank them enough for all their love, efforts, support and encouragement. Apart from my family I wanna give credit to all the amazing people who’ve crossed paths with me and have contributed to getting me where I am today. There’s always a huge team behind somebody’s success therefore I always try to acknowledge their efforts.
