We had the good fortune of connecting with Sharleen Shayan and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sharleen, what do you attribute your success to?
Honestly, I think the most important factor for me was having a great support system, as well as not being afraid to ask for help. So many people get stuck while starting something new just because they have a fear or asking for help, and I was not about to let that stop me! It also helped me make some amazing friends!
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Being a blogger and podcaster, it is really tough. There are so many bloggers, creators and podcasters out there – but I try to bring my unique personality to my platform. So many people that I meet in person tell me about how my personality is fun and weird, so I do try to bring that out when I write. Some lessons I learned along the way – not everyone is going to like you and that is okay! I really do this for me and for fun, and some people will enjoy me and my work, and others wont! I want the world to know that starting a blog, or anything in general is really tough, but it really does not hurt to try. When I decided to start Curiously Shar, I did it because I enjoyed writing and sharing my thoughts or being able to help others, and then I started a podcast and that was just so much fun, and I love hearing great feedback from people – it keeps me going and I love that!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I mean, Los Angeles has so much to do! I think I would start a day having brunch somewhere, and then towards the evening get a sandwich from Cricca’s and head over to the beach! Eat and watch the sunset. Another day, maybe go to Venice beach and get henna tattoos, grab a coffee or a drink, and explore the little shops! In addition, Los Angeles has some pop-up museums so I would see what is open at that moment and go there!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Honestly, my parents, sister, and friends. They have been such a huge role is being the best support system and helping me through my journey!
