We had the good fortune of connecting with Sharmond Tanner and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sharmond, let’s talk legacy – what do you want yours to be?
When it’s all over and I’m reflecting back on my life, I want my legacy to be filled with tales of inspiration. I simply want to know that I’ve inspired someone to chase their dreams regardless of their odds. In the future, I feel my career will serve as a story of persistence and dedication, and I want people to truly remember me for that. Never giving up, despite the obstacles. This journey hasn’t been easy, but I will do it all over again to show that it is possible for someone like me to be successful.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a singer-songwriter that classifies myself mostly as a r&b/pop artist. I released my debut single “Hold on Me” last year in July and since then I have been working on my first project. What I’m most excited about is to finally share more music with the world. I have an upcoming single called “Press Rewind”, which will be my first release of the new year. I wrote the song from a sad place of wishing I could go back in time. This song will tap more into my R&B side and have everyone in their feelings. The journey to where I am now hasn’t been easy. So I received my degree in Music Business from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette and moved to Los Angeles to embark on a career in the music industry. I’ve been met with constant rejection regarding my music, but I never let that stop me. I feel that my writing sets me apart from other artists. My vulnerability and sensitivity makes me unique as a male artist. I’ve learned to be present and take each day as it comes. Regardless of where you are in life, know that everything will get better and that all your dreams are possible long as you continue to believe in them. I want the world to know that I’m a multifaceted entertainer. My ultimate goal as an artist is to show society that men are multifaceted beings. We are not one dimensional, we are vulnerable, emotional, and sympathetic. We come in so many different shapes and forms and are capable of so many great things despite the rigid box society keeps putting us in.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend is coming to visit, the very first thing we are doing is taking a trip to the beach. I prefer going to El Matador beach in Malibu. Next, I might slide over to my favorite restaurant located downtown called The Burger Shop. They have the best vegan burgers in Los Angeles (in my opinion). The next day, I’d make us wake up extremely early for a sunrise hike at Runyon Canyon, which is one of my favorite places to go relax at. Not sure what else I would do after that, but if my best friend is in town, there’s not telling what else we might do! Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I have so many people in my life that have pushed me to be where I am today. I would first like to give a shoutout to my mother for always pushing me to chase my dreams. My friends, family, and to all my fans who have been with me along the way. Every achievement and alcolade is a testament of their love and support. I would be nothing without them.
