We had the good fortune of connecting with Sharon Riche and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sharon, what’s the most important thing you’ve done for your children?
As a parent of three extraordinary adult children the most important values I instilled in them were to love without judgment and always be forgiving. My dad’s mantra he taught us was “Your siblings are the longest relationship of your life. Longer than your parents, children and spouses. Cherish them and be there for one another” My mom taught me by example to never hold a grudge and always accept an apology with graciousness and sincere forgiveness. It warms my heart that my children are the best of friends and are loyal, loving and devoted to eachother.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am the published author of a trilogy of books. Just One More Day is the love story between a mother and daughter. I was a bride to be who never gave up hope that my mom would beat her cancer and that she would live to see my wedding. My mom knew she was dying but never let me know. I was terrified of losing her but I only showed her my strength so she wouldn’t lose hope. I wrote our story after my honeymoon so I could remember our last moments together. I was 24 years old when I wrote it. I never meant to publish it. My fiance found my story almost seven years ago, 27 years later and encouraged me to publish it. My second book Tear Stained Pages is about my father’s story of being a hidden child of the Holocaust. My most exciting and proud moment was when my book found its home in the permanent collection in the Yad Vashem library. My most challenging story to share was my third book Through the Eye of Love. For the first time I exposed my deepest secrets of being called ugly eye by my bullies. I felt vulnerable sharing how different I felt growing up with a hemangioma which led to permanent blindness in one eye. The ongoing theme in all my books is no matter how much darkness we face in our life there is always light when there is love. I have a vision for my fourth book which I have asked my daughter to write with me as a collaboration. As the most wonderful first grade teacher she understands a child’s perspective as this book will be a children’s book about bullying and self esteem. My passion is writing and storytelling Writing my books was natural and cathartic for me and self publishing them was a seamless process which I owe to my devoted fiance. What was not easy was exposing myself and being vulnerable for the world to see. I felt I needed to be raw, truthful, honest and real for my stories to be genuine to my readers. I do feel writing is my purpose but my primary career is in retail banking for a major bank. Nothing is easy in the demanding field of banking. However, as a client advocate it is definitely rewarding when I can make my clients happy by resolving their stressful issues such as fraud or when a dispute goes in their favor. I especially enjoy investigating escalated cases and putting the pieces together. It is very much like solving a mystery. When I am having a difficult day I stop and remind myself to be grateful to have work. and benefits. Above all the most important lesson I have learned is having all the money in the world is meaningless if you don’t have health and love.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I love the Landing in Westlake Village. Something so relaxing about eating delicious sushi while enjoying the stunning lake views. We would then have wine at Stonehause which has a beautiful Tuscany vibe. Then we would venture over to Malibu and hike Point Dume and capture the gorgeous sunset on the beach.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My inspiration is my amazing fiance who is the hardest working human I have ever met. His perseverance, integrity, strong work ethic and dedication inspires me everyday. His encouragement and unwaivering support has given me the confidence to succeed enabling me to go after my dreams. My three adult children have also been instrumental in my success. I have received their gifts of wisdom, advice and insight. I learn from their persistence, drive and passion. They have thriving careers, are compassionate, loving, kind and highly intelligent. They are my cheerleaders, my teachers and my heart.
