We had the good fortune of connecting with Sharon Waich B. and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sharon, what do you attribute your success to?
Perseverance! Fight, fight, and then fight again. Let every failure make you stronger.

I believe perseverance has been the key to the success of my dreams. Filmmaking is an extremely difficult path to choose, especially if you are a young woman from Venezuela.

After going against my family’s wish, I came to grad school in the States. After graduation, I was able to find a good job, but my visa was ultimately denied and I had to go back to a country where opportunities were fading out, and my salary wasn’t even 10% of what I made here.

I had to pick another country to immigrate to. I left for Mexico. I have never been there before, I started calling friends of friends, and I was able to get some work there. It was hard at the beginning, but I had a goal. I made enough money to reapply for my visa. It took a long time but they finally approve it and I got here and the pandemic started.
But no visa and no pandemic was going to stay in the way of fighting and persevering for the success of my dreams.

So here I am back in LA, doing what I love, creating stories, producing, ADing, and going forward!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Oh wow, I really love LA, these are for sure the place I wouldn’t miss:

Beaches: Definitely Manhattan and Hermosa Beach, they’re lovely. In Playa Vista there is a sandwich restaurant called Playa Provision that I love, so we can do lunch and beach at the same time.

I would also take them to the Santa Monica promenade and beach, we would rent bikes, and go to a nice drive to Malibu.

Another day I would take them to the Griffith Park and Getty Center, and of course, the Chinese theater and the stars of fame are a must.

During summer, we can also go to Hollywood Forever and watch a movie there, that weirded me out the first time, but it was kind of different and interesting.

Restaurants: What I love about LA, is that you can wake up literally craving food from any country and you will find a place to eat, and there sometimes you get to meet the owners, and they’re from different countries so It’s interesting.
These are some of my favorites: California Roll Factory (small but super tasty sushi), Javan restaurant, Hayat’s Kitchen, Pampas Grill, Cariaco, Kazunori, Stout, Playa Provision, Shanghai Restaurant in San Gabriel, for authentic Chinese food.

To dance: If they’re Latin to LA Descarga, if they’re not also there haha, or La Floridita. Also every two weeks, there is a Sudamericana party Downtown that is very cool, and for more chill time I will go to Harvard and Stone.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Well, I would dedicate this to every person I have worked with, or have studied under their guidance because I’ve learned something from each and every one of them and they were the ones who made me who I am. Of course, my lovely family, my boyfriend, my friends, and my wonderful sponsor Michael Wunsch and his company Outpost Worldwide have given me a lot of love and support over the years and they had helped me persevere and taught me to never give up.
