We had the good fortune of connecting with Shawna Blocker (moussie Mousse) and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Shawna, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
As much as I would like to say, I chose the Art path……it surely chose me. Throughout my life, I’ve been creative in many ways. Whether it be problem-solving or simply creating something from nothing. Often it’s a natural and uncontrollable urge of expression. Art is a universal language that doesn’t require words be understood. It’s a moment where all barriers suffice, as we experience outside of ourself briefly until it’s over. Art chose me to be a facilitator of bridging worlds similar, different, seen and unseen, into one space here, now and forever.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My talent is an endless reservoir of creativity. Due to that, it’s hard to identify as one specific type of artist. My career as a creative, has it’s share of struggles. One is learning patience in building a talent/skill to support all the others. I began sketching as a child, learning how to transfer my emotions to paper. Gradually sharing with friends and family. My interest in fashion peaked during high school, I went on graduating to Fidm studying textiles. During this time with the exposure of new tools, I was changing the way that I look at art understanding from a business perspective. Due to curriculum started to paint more, learning techniques, color theory, and other useful insights to start my professional career. I lost sight of my goals and dropped out a few months before covid. During Covid began painting again, later showcasing at a few art events. Then branching out into everything I’ve ever wanted in the arts. From painting/sketching to
streaming and content creation, to modeling and photography. That led to designing handmade merch, tie-dye tote bags, and hoodies. Now, my latest skillset tattooing and piercing. Tattoos and piercing being most rewarding because of the ability to interact with people and their trust in me to place art on them forever. Each form of art is a promising route I could take and start a new world for myself. Overall, the Art life has provided many opportunities, amazing memories, friendships including inspiration to keep going. Creating is my way of life, and Im excited to see what the next five years hold!!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Although I grew up in the city, I’m really a nature girl. I love to be anywhere there’s a lack of people. I’m always cruising with my besties at the beach during the weirdest hours. If you hear howling banshees in the middle of the night it’s probably us. My favorite spot to skate is Long Beach because the lighthouse hill and the bike path is the smoothest. I don’t go out that much, unless I’m just exploring the city, random hikes looking for views or waterfalls. I don’t have any particular spots that I go to faithfully other than the beach. If I am out, it’s usually one of my friends forcing me to not be a hermit crab haha. If we’re talking foooddddd, my favorite spot is Simply Wholesome on Slauson. I grew up off those spinach patties, and smoothies. If I was feeling extra sweet tooth, then snowballs across the street before they shut down. Other than that, you gotta hang out with me to know where we’re going because it’s always an adventure.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
It took a village to raise this child, and plenty of life lessons alongside. Ultimately, shoutout goes to the strife in my life, which forced me to make the best of all my situations. Granting me the strength to not only persevere but transcend becoming everything I’ve ever wanted and more. All the shoulders soaked in my tears, all the hugs providing support. Those who contributed to my well-being overall. Never seeing me anything less than outstanding even in my time of need. Each of you know who you are in my life and thank you for your contributions. I wouldn’t be here without you guys!! Also shoutout to the nonbelievers and haters, My favorite motivators. Not everyone will agree with you in this world. If you don’t have a fan club you need to work harder you aren’t doing enough.
