We had the good fortune of connecting with Sheera Goren and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sheera, what principle do you value most?
Challenging the status quo. While not an inherent rule breaker, I have always felt an unease with just accepting things as is. Why can’t girls do that? Why can’t I go straight in-house as opposed to working at a law firm? Why can’t we stream audio underwater? I believe the fact that I have been able to exercise the courage to do something different in life, career, and otherwise, has allowed me to learn more about myself, the world, and those around me. Not just accepting what others have done or have told you as truth has been the best part of my adult life in shifting what I ever thought was possible.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Zygo is the first, and only, underwater streaming audio solution. Before us, the only things that existed were MP3 players which are a relic of the past. As two non swimmers, we were foolish enough to think we could change the game and break the laws of physics to penetrate sound through water.

The challenges have been plenty and we continue to face new ones every day. We have had dark days of realizing we have to change a design, overpaying for work, and not knowing if/when we were going to have enough money to pay bills. We are still battling, but we our resourceful, resilient, and truly care about our customers which I think is the most important piece in the long run. We know that if we have more people who love our product, we will find a way to survive.

The biggest lesson we have learned is that if it was easy, it would be done already! Our story and brand came from organic beginnings. We are the customers of our own product and service. We wanted to enjoy swimming as adults the same we enjoy Peloton and running and boxing and more. We want to inspire and encourage others to either enhance their swims or make swimming a part of their fitness journey. Zygo stands for the idea that if you can float, you’re a swimmer. No need to win the Olympics!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Fun! I would take them to…

Manhattan Beach for an ocean dip.

Sushi Tama, Sugarfish, and Sasabune for sushi on multiple nights.

Big Chill for froyo.

Hike Bronson Canyon followed by brunch at Beachwood Cafe.

Dinner at R&D on Montana.

Bike ride down the beach path.

Play pickle ball.

Drinks and dinner at Scopa.

Malibu hike followed by lunch at. the Country Mart.

Top Golf in El Segundo.

Dinner at Feng Mao for lamb kebabs.

Chopped salads from La Scala.

Froyo from Humphrey’s.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My Co-Founder, Charlie. We would not be here today without one another and it’s been an amazing experience swimming upstream together.
