We had the good fortune of connecting with Sheika-Ann (DJ unSHEIKAble) Ambatali and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sheika-Ann (DJ unSHEIKAble), what do you attribute your success to?
The most important factor behind my success and the success of my brand is simply enjoying what I do which is to provide services as a live DJ and MC. Music makes memories and it also brings people together. I am lucky to be that person that will initiate long lasting memories for my clients just by my professional selection of sounds and seamless transitions. I understand that every event is special and unique. Therefore, I want to make sure that my clients have the event of their dreams.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I officially began DJ-ing in 2003 which was my junior year for my high school’s associated student government. I gained my experience DJ-ing for school events such as rallies, lunch time activities, talent shows, teacher appreciation week and even dances. I take pride in saying that I was the school’s first female DJ.
I was just doing this hobby for fun and for my school. To be honest, I did not even think I could make a profession out of it until a teacher asked me to DJ their junior high school dance for money. I was blown away that I could get paid to do this so it was truly unexpected but a nice surprise. Later in my life, my stage name became DJ unSHEIKAble because it incorporates my name–Sheika.
I would like the world to know that you can make your passion valuable to others. There is truly no limit to what you can do to make the world a better place. I feel as though my DJ-ing can make people happy and I love being a part of that.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to give my good friend, Jonathan Tio, a huge shoutout because without him I probably would not have pursued DJ-ing as a profession. He was a piece of the puzzle that helped me gain more interest in turntablism because he actually had the equipment for me to see in person and physically feel with my own two hands. I appreciate you! You deserve a bit of credit and recognition for me to become DJ unSHEIKAble.
