We had the good fortune of connecting with Sherron Breaux-Welch and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sherron, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I know so many plus size women who downplay their crown with all these superficial reasons. “My stomachs too big” “I only wear black because it’s slimming” , “horizontal stripes make me look wide”, and my favorite “men don’t like fat girls”. Now that one grinds my gears!!!! I started wardrobe styling, specializing in plus size women, to give my girls that extra umph. So when I’m done with them, they’d find solace in neon greens, polka dots, and cute little crop tops!!!
I am 260 pounds, back rolls like a bakery, 2 different stomachs, BUT I FEEL GOOD…I needed them to feel that too !
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I love bright bright colors! Big girl and all, bright colors make my world go round lol. I am not afraid to wear ANYTHING. I’ve always been known to do what I want, when I want. Not for anyone else, but for me. It helped me feel good and it helped me feel like I belonged. I kind of stumbled upon styling and I definitely stumbled upon being a fitness instructor. I was out here living my life lol. However, the more I posted my outfit or workout of the day…the more people would DM me asking me questions. “Where did you find this top?” Or “I’m trying to lose weight, where do I start?” I never felt like a guru, I was just living my life…but I was answering questions so freely based off my personal experiences and by the time we were done talking, I had gained another homegirl!!!!! Lol
One of my friends, DQ aka Shabookie (I give everyone I love nicknames), asked me to put a dance workout routine on video to help her get started on her fitness journey and I did and then it was up from there!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
So I’m a LA girl but I went to school in New York, so I reside in New Jersey. So I’m still very touristy!!!! So bare with ya girl 😂
Monday: Houston’s Restaurant in Hackensack, they have the best Lemon Drops and spinach dip!! Get really cute, it’s a very romantic setting, dim lights! It’s attached to the mall, so bring you some flats so you can do a lil shopping while you wait for your name to be called! The wait time is very rude lol!
Tuesday: Go see the Statue of Liberty in Jersey City and head straight over to a cute little place in Hoboken, NJ. It’s Tuesday and they have tacos! Ironically it’s called East LA lol. Margaritas are strong and chicken wings are very delicious. And they also play great music.
Wednesday: Museum Time !! New York has some of the best museums ever! Must visit the MOMA. And after that please please go visit FIT’s museum. It’s all about fashion, from all over, from all eras! It’s pretty amazing and the switch exhibits often.
Thursday: I’d give myself a little rooftop action at 230 5th Rooftop Bar. The best views, you can see the Empire State Building. In the colder months, they have igloos as well.
Friday: We are heading back to Jersey to hit up Social 59 Eatery and Lounge! Great atmosphere, hookah, great drinks and even better Alfredo lol..make sure you tell them you want to add chicken and shrimp 🙌🏾
Saturday: Cuban Pete’s!!!!!!!! Best Cuban food ever. It’s Bring Your Own Alcohol. Spinach empanadas 😳👏🏾🙌🏾
Sunday: it’s the end of the week and on Sundays we Brunch. Taj NYC has good food and the DJ is always poppin
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My mother is the GOAT! Ive been a chubby girl all my life. My moms a seamstress and she made my clothes and I never missed a beat. Til this day she has nurtured every business plan. She’s always made me feel confident in my appearance. Honestly, ya girl made it easy for me!! That’s my Shaniqua. (That’s not her name, I don’t know why I started calling her that because her name is Sherry, but she’s been Shaniqua for 15 years now 😂😂😂)
