Meet Shevi Baruch: Owner of Body Rhythm and a movement specialist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Shevi Baruch and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Shevi, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Having experienced an injury at young age and as part of my journey to recovery I was seeking the best of all the holistic approaches to heal my body. I began to sort out the modalities that tend to help and studied with the best masters in those fields. When I was a speech therapist, I realized the importance of the body alignment, how the bones align and release tension creating harmony when the alignment is correct. The knowledge and understanding that I gained is unique and allows me to help people relive pain and to develop better more efficient movement, The most important part is that I can restore hope and help people understand that they can have a future that is not restricted or controlled by pain. When I moved to Santa Monica, I knew that it is the time for me to open my space where I can bring movement and strength back to people who lost the trust in their ability to move. That I could guide others to be empowered by the knowledge of how-to move. Not only free of pain and discomfort but to be fully active and feel strong and agile. No matter what their starting point is.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I refer to what I do like a detective of the body. I gather information, observe the body in movement, and try to solve an imbalance that creates discomfort or pain. My job is to unravel the layers that hide the imbalance, and to teach my clients how to release and strengthen that place so it will not relapse. Integrating into movement and continuing building strength in movement. My focus is on being active and achieving control over the ability of one’s body. I trust the human body to be able to find its strength, stability and balance. I am excited when I am able to release the pain someone feels. I believe that relieving pain from one person releases pain and improves their quality of life.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I have friends who visit from all over the world, and they all join me at my favorite spots in town. A must visit in the mornings is to Funnel Mill, where my friends Teresa and J.C. serve the best coffee and teas. For lunch, Pono Burger, my daughter’s favorite, has great burgers and fries. Going to the beach for a walk by the water or to climb the rock at the playground and having an early dinner at the Back by the Beach Cafe at the Annenberg Beach House. For more activity Sender One, rock climbing near LAX and for kids they have Sender City. An evening performance of music at Santa Monica Conservatory of Music and my favorite theater in Santa Monica, The Braid, their intimate style shows that brings together the community and the stories that touches your heart and lift your spirit.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I am forever grateful to my dad who showed me that there is no age limit for curiosity. My father was an electrician who started studying Shiatsu, Kabbalah healing, Herbology and palm reading in his 50’s. To my amazing mom who is strong and gives the biggest hugs, love and encouragement. Who summarizes everything with “If you are happy, I am happy for you”. I could not overcome so many obstacles and feel good about it without you. To my teachers and mentors that taught me to trust my body. Studying and working with them felt like a celebration of our being. To Juliu Horvath that his creation of the movement system of GYROTONIC® & GYROKINESIS® inspires me daily. To my friends and family that pull together when I need help and to my two girls that always welcome me with love, hugs and kisses and fill my heart with joy when I enter home.
