We had the good fortune of connecting with Shiloh Eyes and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Shiloh, what habits do you feel play an important role in your life?
I’ve always been pretty self-disciplined. The process of making music can be very experimental and loose, but a big part of it is just plain hard work. You have to be meticulous and focused for very long periods of time, and sometimes you need to go for as long as you can, until it feels right, and that’s not always easy. I also work as an engineer, which requires long periods of intense focus. Producing music can feel no different.

I also work out consistently and try to eat as well as possible (with the occasional pizza, of course!!). Feeling energized and well-hydrated helps me stay on top of all the projects I have on my plate.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My interest in making music started at a really young age, but it wasn’t until experiencing a big life transition that I started delving into the creative life again. I had just moved back home to LA after several years of marriage on the East Coast. I was putting the pieces of myself back together, and making music was a critical part of my growth and self-restoration.

I didn’t start writing music with the intention of putting it out into the world. It was mostly a way for me to keep going. But when others around me heard what I was making, they encouraged me to share it. That’s when things clicked- and I thought, maybe I should keep doing this!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
LA is such a sprawling city. I’d take friends visiting LA for the first time on a long drive down Sunset Blvd, going east to west.. You see so much on the way to the coast! I’d then take them on a hike for panoramic views of LA. Maybe sandwiches from Wax Paper or Breadlam for lunch, and dinner at Terroni. And if we were on the Westside, South End for pizza or Gjusta for brunch. And for coffee, I’d take them to Alfred or Eightfold. And if there’s time, live music or a show at The Comedy Store!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’d like to dedicate this shoutout to my older brother Steve. He was a big influence on me growing up. It was because of him I first picked up a guitar, and it was because of him i started DJing. He gave me his turntables when I was in college, and it was at that time I taught myself how to DJ. Nowadays he’s the mix engineer on all my songs and adds a level of polish that I couldn’t imagine my music being without.

There’s also a friend I met while working at Fender that deserves a shoutout. He was the first person to believe in my potential as an artist and producer. He inspired me to keep going down this path and I’ll never forget it.
