We had the good fortune of connecting with Shonika Michelle and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Shonika, what role has risk played in your life or career?
Risk taking is exciting, nerve racking and scary all in one, but I wouldn’t have started my business as well as followed through with personal goals if I didn’t take a chance on myself. I started my business in the beginning of the pandemic, some called me crazy and others were confused, but I knew that if I started this business, I would be able to make a very significant change. .

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
TailorMaid Organics began as a thought. I saw so much potential even while nervously preparing myself to execute these ideas. TailorMaid Organics represents hope, peace, care, love and joy. The products, such as body scrubs, soaps , candles aren’t just products, but they reflect courage. I feel like TailorMaid Organics has a purpose and the purpose was birth because there are un met needs within society. TailorMaid caters to self care. We really don’t take advantage of it enough. It wasn’t easy starting the brand or creating the products, but I was very persistent and saw that we needed a change, specifically in what we put on and in our bodies. Tailormaid Organics caters to men, women and children. All ingredients are natural.

Throughout this journey, I’ve learned how to face fear in the face and utilize it to keep pushing through. I encourage everyone to keep going and pushing forward in the midst of hardship and trials. You can do it, you can make it and you are important! Your dreams, your goals are important. Take a chance on yourself.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend came to visit, I would take them to the park and then Site see in New York. I’d eat at Noches restaurant and drive down to Brooklyn to get some cheesecake. We would go to a comedy club for some good laughs and just have a good time. I am all about having a good time even with a busy schedule.

People that don’t take life too seriously are my favorite kind of people. I like people that can have fun, but still get things done.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to give thanks to God first. Without him, I wouldn’t be here. I give him credit for all of my creative ideas and thoughts for this business. I want to thank my Husband Sam for his love and support. I thank my friends and clients for the love shown. My mother has shown so much support since TailorMaid Organics started.
