We had the good fortune of connecting with Shonnell Pleshette and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Shonnell, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Initially my thought process behind starting my own business was definitely financial. But the moment my son was born my whole mindset changed and all I could think about was time, and how much of it I could spend with him if I mastered entrepreneurship.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Well I pretty much make everything by hand. My pieces are not manufactured. The thing that makes me the most proud about this particular business is how I got started. I started out just simply wanting to make waistbeads for women of faith. But to my surprise it wasn’t as simple as I thought. I had to do a bit of research. Strings, beads, gemstone quality, tie-on methods, removable methods, and what would be best route for me to chose. There was a lot of trial and error but it all finally came together. The process of it all truly taught me diligence and the importance of not giving up just because challenges come, because they will come.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
My best friend and I are Moms, so were not big on partying like we were when we were younger, we both prefer to be at home cooking and watching something Hilariously funny on Tv, but we definitely know how to make a go of it. So, we would most likely go to Cheesecake factory in the Marina to start. We would have their Buffalo blast appetizers, and a strawberry lemonade, we would absolutely hang out by the water for as long as possible. By that evening I’m sure we would have plans to go hiking at Kenneth Hann, visit Venice Beach at least once or twice, grab some slices from Tumbys, Tacos from King Taco do some shopping at Target, go buy stretch pants from the Slauson Super Mall lol, we would hit up Benihannas, hang out at the nearest Farmers market and enjoy at least 1 cup of Cold stones all in a week’s time!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Well first off definitely my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ! And secondly my family. When I say they’ve supported me in every way possible it unreal. My husband, my dad, my son, my grandparents, my aunts Anita L. and Sherry A. my brother Rell my friends Jewels and Nesh and last but not least my Pastor and His wife!
