We had the good fortune of connecting with Sidney Tuggerson Jr. and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sidney, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
It was something I always wanted to do but to my limited exposure while in school, there are no art classes, and I had to go in a roundabout way to achieve my dreams now; as I look back, I think that what was a great experience for me because I didn’t have that pressured placed upon me to be a certain type of artist.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Over the years, I had plenty of time to know and think of what I wanted to do. Throughout my years of studies, I’m a kind of carefree artist. I paint what I want. Sometimes it can be with a pallet knife or a brush. I can be rough or smooth. I like mixing my subject matter with different angles and shape against colors.
I started the Small Business adventure of SBDC California to know what to expect. First, I got my license and permitted registration to sell in Inglewood and the County of Los Angeles. I started a website, a Facebook page, An Instagram to place my image on the social network for viewing. Establish a business presence and setting up bank and merchant account
I found out it’s hard to run a business because you have to stay one step ahead of your competition.
I want the world to know originated art the only of its kind; in my painting, I express my feeling of peace and tranquility.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
To the big Blue Pacific Oceans parks and recreational and hiking trails, then for a bite to eat at Pier or to Showline Village, in Long Beach, then to Getty Museum or LAMOA, Hollywood Bowel, or SOFI.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Yes, I would like to recognize my sister Doris AKA CAT first; she’s definitely the one that inspires me to draw, and my mother, Susie, for painting in my earlier years. Throughout my years of study and painting, my most recent encouragement came from Alisa Orduna Ph.D., Anne Cheek LA Rose Artist, Keith Jeffries USVAA Art, Merle C. Fishman VA Art Therapy and Sibyl Watkins AGS Gallery, Michael Massenburg Artist, and a host of others Thank you all for your inspiration.
