We had the good fortune of connecting with Sierra Barrett and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sierra, is your business focused on helping the community? If so, how?
In all honesty I have been pleasantly surprised to see how my business has impacted my community. Being someone who delights in thoughtfulness and deliberative gift giving I have been amazed at how others have used Painted Pendants as a method for doing just that. Through the custom designs and commissions I make, I get to discuss with people what they want to gift others. I have seen people show support through gifting others portraits of pets both past and present. Others have had me paint memorable moments for anniversary gifts or to just show love to their significant other. Really, the business has given me a new glimpse at how people think about each other, or fond memories they hold dear. Through the collaboration they invite me into those moments or memories as I make them an illustration. Seeing thoughtfulness in the community through art is an outcome I never anticipated but am endlessly grateful for. If this business can continue to empower people to bond and strengthen relationships through thoughtfulness then it’s on the right creative path!

When it comes to Painted Pendants I am most proud of how each item is unique, one of a kind. I personally have always had a love for hand made, off the beaten path pieces whether in art, jewelry or fashion. Painted Pendants takes watercolor paintings and provides the customer with a small painting of their very own. They have a lot of character and soul to them. Like any form of creativity or skill, this was a journey. Ironically, I had never planned to make my own website or try to sell my creations. Art had always been a hobby and a way to keep my creative side alive, drawing in waiting rooms and on my lunch breaks. Having spent countless hours drawing and practicing the hardest obstacle was actually taking the plunge into putting myself and my art out there. Fortunately, thanks to fellow friends who are creatives, a lot of extra time in 2020 and a need for productivity this business was formed. Painted Pendants is still very new and the goal is to keep improving and sharing love of art and creativity with others.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
One of the key ways the Painted Pendants company came to be was through life coaching with my friend Rebecca Sok. Her ability to help me break down a plan for bringing this company to life is why it exists today. Without the knowledge and skills she has as a coach I know it would have taken me far longer to make a website and market my art. Having a skilled coach who helped me tackle each hurdle made all the difference in the world.
In addition to Rebecca, my family has been tremendously helpful. My parents and brother are who I reach out to when I need creative input and who reminds me to keep creating and imagining.
