Meet Sierra Massey | Senior Student Midwife & Holistic Birthkeeper

We had the good fortune of connecting with Sierra Massey and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sierra, what do you want your legacy to be?
I want my legacy to be that I broke generational curses in my bloodline, that I stood for what was right and true. I want people to remember me as their midwife who helped safely bring their babies earthside and as a mother who guided her children to be who they are. I want to leave a legacy of bringing together communities and being apart of a positive change for families affected by capitalism, war, and greed.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My successes today are largely due to my commitment to making a difference within my community. The authentic principles my business was founded upon have guided me and kept me moving forward within my purpose to serve others. There are always challenges along the way and I have overcame them by being fluid and flexible. Sierra’s Serenity is committed to providing a safe space for Black and Indigenous peoples to facilitate their own healing however that may look for them. What I am most excited about is joining the team over at Wombs Of Wata – a community of birth keepers, birth workers, guardians, midwives, and cultural practitioners dedicated to preserving traditions and supporting the diaspora’s global remembering.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
It is always about facilitating the right vibes whenever I have friends visiting from out of town. There are so many awesome places to visit, eat, and hang out at. While you’re in town you definitely have to hit in n out, it’s a Los Angeles staple. Some other great ethnic food spots to check out would be Two Hommes in Inglewood and the Merkato Ethiopian restaurant on Fairfax, they have some of the best food in the city. If you want to just hang out, mother’s beach at Marina Del Rey is fun or walking around the Grove on Fairfax. If you want more of a chill vibe you can go to the cinemark in Playa Del Rey for a luxury movie with very comfortable seats and a food/drink service that comes right to your seat. There is always something to do out here in Los Angeles!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to dedicate my shoutout to my mother. First of all I wouldn’t even be here without her and I am grateful I chose her as my mom. She has always been dedicated to her children and making sure we have every opportunity to thrive in life. Regardless of the path I have taken she has always been a huge support to me and has encouraged me to keep going even when things are hard. I am definitely blessed to have her in my life.
