We had the good fortune of connecting with Sihle “Zee” Vilakazi and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sihle “Zee”, we’d love for you to start things off by telling us something about your industry that we and others not in the industry might be unaware of?
The entertainment industry is inherently unpredictable, which is why I consistently encourage emerging artists and creatives to expand their networks beyond their local sphere. By forging connections not only within their own country but also with individuals from different nations, they open themselves up to unforeseen opportunities. You never know who you might encounter and how they may contribute to securing your next gig, film project, or significant breakthrough. Personally, through networking, I was able to effectively promote my name and establish a presence within the industry. This led to noteworthy engagements with prominent American film studios such as FOX Studios and BET. Additionally, I recently had the privilege of performing at Coachella alongside the artist Uncle Waffles, and I had the opportunity to collaborate with esteemed South African photographer Alain Kasse. Furthermore, I made my producing debut on the SAG series titled “And There Were Roommates,” written by Angie Munyange and Hilary Ijeh, which is slated for presentation to various film studios in the United States. I also contributed to the production of the award-winning film “Sebari Milach,” which received the Loeries Silver award. To summarize these remarkable achievements, I attribute them to the kindness and support I extended to others, as the entertainment industry relies heavily on teamwork and collaboration. It is impossible to succeed alone, and by actively aiding and participating in the community, I have discovered the pathways where my true potential shines, ultimately leading me to these incredible opportunities.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
The realization that I wanted to pursue a professional career in the arts and creativity came to me at the tender age of four. It was during a school play where I vividly remember performing as a little dog. To my mother’s recollection, I was the only child who did not shed tears or call out for their parents while on stage. From that moment, my mother recognized a natural performer in me, and her belief in my abilities solidified.
Four years later, when I was eight years old, we were asked about our aspirations for the future. I confidently stated that I wanted to become a doctor like my mother. I recall approaching my mom to share this news, and to my surprise, she responded by suggesting, and I quote, “Why don’t you become an actress?” This single conversation caused a profound shift in my career aspirations. I never anticipated receiving such wholehearted support from my mother, nor did I realize that she genuinely believed in and would support my artistic talent. It was at that moment that I made the decision to embrace the artistic path professionally.
Since that transformative conversation, I have wholeheartedly pursued my artistic dreams. The unwavering support and encouragement from my mother propelled me forward, allowing me to fully embrace my talent and pursue a professional career in the arts. I am eternally grateful for her belief in me and for guiding me towards a path where my true passion thrives.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.

Disneyland in Anaheim: A must-visit for families and Disney enthusiasts, Disneyland in Anaheim promises a magical experience with its iconic attractions, shows, and beloved characters.
Six Flags: For thrill-seekers, Six Flags Magic Mountain in Valencia is a fantastic amusement park featuring exhilarating rides and entertainment options.
Little Ethiopia: Located in the Fairfax District of Los Angeles, Little Ethiopia offers an authentic cultural experience with its Ethiopian restaurants, shops, and vibrant community.
Little Tokyo: Situated in downtown Los Angeles, Little Tokyo showcases Japanese culture through its traditional shops, restaurants, museums, and annual festivals.
When it comes to dining, I highly recommend trying The Federal Restaurant in North Hollywood. It offers a diverse menu featuring delicious cuisine and a welcoming atmosphere.
These suggestions encompass some of the iconic and culturally rich destinations in the Los Angeles area. Visitors are sure to enjoy a memorable experience by exploring these locations and indulging in the local flavors.
