We had the good fortune of connecting with Simone Acosta and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Simone, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
My life circumstances greatly changed my work and life balance. Before I was young and single and committed to a salary job that required unlimited availability. But now a little older and as a wife and mom, my priorities changed. I choose to put my family first. Setting boundaries with my business allows me to be present at home, and yet scale any business growth at my pace and fitting in my availability. My mental health had benefited greatly for it and so has my family.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
In a world where technology is dominating multiple fields, human touch, compassion and empathy can’t be replaced. Working in the service industry you see clients weighed with stress and worry. And providing a safe space to allow their nervous systems to calm and reset has become a commodity. I don’t just provide corrective and holistic skin treatments, or massage therapy. I provide an opportunity to be cared for. It’s difficult to get attention on the work I do because there are an overabundance of workers in my field. I am different, and my challenge is helping potential clients to understand the differences. But the clients I have feel the value in my treatments. Word of mouth has been the most essential part of my growth. I do my best to ensure every treatment receives the same energy, focus and care. For my long time clients to my brand new first timer, everyone receives the same care. That has helped me build my reputation and not rely solely on marketing and risk blending in with others.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’ve really had fun exploring small businesses I’ve never been to before. Local used book stores or record stores. Going to privately owned coffee shops and thrifting. Visiting pop ups and vendor markets. I’m making conscious efforts in supporting small businesses and recycled/used or sustainable products. It truly is the best way to find more unique goods over mass produced things.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Every business idea, every late night talk through my processes, my worries and concerns have been met with nothing but support from my husband. My kids are equally supportive, they never make me feel like I’m not present for them.
My clients are the legs I stand on because I quite literally would not be here without them. They have been so loyal and stuck around for years.
I also have so much gratitude for many of my peers in the industry that I’ve met along the way. Having a community that help build each other up, instead of tearing each other down for competition. We all have a similar goal and working together makes it so much easier.
