We had the good fortune of connecting with Skye Besserman and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Skye, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
When I first launched my business in 2017, I had an abundance of free time that allowed me to focus on my brand. Fast forward to 2021, I’m a full-time mom to a toddler, and 8 months pregnant. So my business is not getting my attention like it once did.
Keeping up with a very active toddler and being pregnant, some days I need extra rest. With the little remaining time after our needs are met, I ask myself, in this current environment, how can I best offer a valuable service to others.
As a result, I no longer work long hours and have adjusted the number of clients I’ll take on/commit to. I reach out for help when I need it. And if I feel I need a break, I make sure to take it. I have found this is much more practical for me at this point in life and when I honor it, I am more productive, focused, clear, calm and at peace. I also have more energy for my son and feel that I am a much better guide for my clients when I am nourished, nurtured, and running on a full tank!
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My work is deeply rooted in energy medicine and exploring and understanding how our conscious and sub-conscious thoughts, experiences, beliefs affect us. I believe everyone and everything is made up of energy that is translated as vibrational frequencies. These frequencies include (and are not limited to) our emotional state of mind, our thoughts,(positive/negative/optimistic/pessimistic) our physical health, our sensitivity to what others are emitting; all directly effect various aspects of our lives. From our physical, mental and emotional state, to our mind, body and spirit. Even the spaces we call home, or our work environment. All of it contributes to how we experience life, and how we are able to respond versus react.
My goal as an energy practitioner is to help people clear the patterns, thoughts and behaviors that may be interfering from them living with greater joy, passion, love, as their heart felt dreams and potentials unfold. I offer services such as crystal therapy, sound healing, energy (reiki) treatments and spiritual counseling.
There were many things I’ve had to overcome both personally and professionally. Limiting thought patterns were significant; judgment of self, feeling safe to say what I thought or how I felt. Criticism, doubt. I think these things impact many of us. I had to surrender and allow myself permission to be vulnerable with others. I had to let go of what others thought, stop trying to please others by leaving myself out of the equation, and allowing myself to really dream big and trust and believe that I am worthy in receiving and deserving of success. I’ve learned to trust myself more, to not give up on myself, to be patient and kinder to myself, and that these things take time, so not to put a time frame on “healing”. Just continue to do the work. Pause when I need to, reflect, rest. Be flexible. Another big one that I’m still working on is surrendering to the unknown.
What set’s me apart from others is not so easy to answer without it seeming judgmental or critical. I have a strong moral code and ethics. I do what I do to assist others. I’m not here to lead anyone on and have them become co-dependent on me. When I connect, I go within, working with the highest levels of love and light. I call in pure Source energy, God energy and have very clear and strong energetic boundaries.
I want others to become empowered. To go within, to connect with Source, to live from their strengths and authentic self. It’s my desire that they discover an inner space of peace, love and compassion to live life from and to create sacred spaces within the home that supports them. My desire is to see my clients thrive. And to offer items that are of value and supportive.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
This is a tough one because I’m such a homebody. I love being home. It’s my sanctuary…where I feel calm and at peace, away from the chaos and heavy energies around LA.
However, If my bestie was truly in town, we’d probably go out for some hikes in and around LA, enjoy some healthy and delicious foods and juices… I’d take her out to local farmers markets, Smorgasburg in DTLA, (if/when it reopens) and check out the design, food, and art scene. And when we want some sun and adventure, we’ll hit up coast. We typically frequent the beaches in Malibu, but also enjoy exploring Orange County and further down south. The ocean is where I refuel, ground my energy, and have fun building sand castles with my son. I’ll usually make a nice assortment for us to munch on; homemade pesto and bread, guacamole, fresh veggies, hummus, and variety of fresh fruits and berries. And lots of h20 and coconut water.
Again, we love to entertain at home. So we’d probably grille, dine outside if the weather is nice, and at night, enjoy conversing with each other, listen to music, play board games. Have fun.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Shoutout to Kristin and Aida at Border Free Media! These incredibly talented women were my business mentors last year and I feel so grateful for their support and loving guidance.
And of course, I can’t thank those closest to me enough–my husband, friends and family for all their love, support and encouragement. And especially, my mother-in-law, who has been a great mentor of mine, guiding and supporting me through my healing journey since the beginning.
