We had the good fortune of connecting with Skye Popov and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Skye, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
Honestly, it’s because I wouldn’t be happy doing anything else. Acting, creating, performing is where I feel the most fulfilled… Not just the most, it’s the only place I feel fulfilled. I just love it all. Acting allows me to really see other people within characters. It makes me a more empathetic and understanding person in a world where we judge each other with an upwards swipe of a finger.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
It took me awhile to really find myself as an artist. A lot of my creative journey I attribute to my undergrad years at CalArts, a journey I’m wrapping up in May of 2025. I was able to take classes that explore my medium as an actress in ways I never considered as just a young girl with a dream who didn’t even know you could major in Acting. I’ve put up original work, found a quality in my own movement and confidence that I certainly didn’t have at 18. It definitely took a lot refining and a lot of critique from teachers to really find my voice and my honesty within my work. But once I started putting up my own work, writing more, and flexing my comedy muscles, I really got into my groove. I learned to be patience with myself, that it’s okay to take space when you need to, and honestly to just relax when something isn’t working. I’m still very much a perfectionist, but now I like to call myself a “chill” perfectionist. I’ve never been type-A but I definitely still occasionally struggle with being very hard on myself. A big lesson I’ve learned throughout my time acting is that your circle, who you surround yourself with, really matters. I love my friends, my family, and my peers. I feel very lucky to be supported by them, and very privileged to have the ability to witness and support their talent.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I mean, I’m biased, but I’ve spent a lot of time serving at Omaya’s Lebanese Cuisine. Not only is the restaurant owned by the kindest family in the world, but the food is REALLY good. Like… really good. We’d also of course hang out on Main Street in Newhall. I’d also love to take them a bit towards L.A. and walk around Ventura Boulevard, I have a lot of fond memories in that area.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My family is the most important thing to me. My mom, when I was growing up and learning to act in Los Angeles, would spend hours upon hours sitting in the car- driving me to auditions, waiting for me outside of acting class, having to come to set with me. The list goes on. I owe her so much for believing in me and giving me the opportunity to follow my dreams. My dad worked 12-hour days to support our family unit all the while my parents looked after my amazing brother, Roman, who was diagnosed with a form of autism called fragile X syndrome which seriously impacts his speech and motor abilities. We’re actually only 18-months apart, so we’ve always been really close.
