We had the good fortune of connecting with Skylar Erna and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Skylar, what do you attribute your success to?
I think that the most important factor behind my success has definitely been staying true to who I am. I’m a 22 year old girl’s girl through and through and I am figuring my life out as I go (much like most girls in their 20s). I really try to stray away from the normal “influencer” stereotype of being clean cut, talking like a barbie, etc. I’m from Boston… I’m loud, I swear, I have strong opinions, and what you see is what you get with me. I will never let myself stray from that. My whole page is meant to empower women. I try to be the ultimtae ‘internet bestie’ that you can go to for the fashion, makeup, and skincare advice but also for a laugh, some relationship inspo, or how to survive your 20s advice!

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I started modeling at 13 years old, small photoshoots here and there but usually building my portfolio with my friends who enjoyed photography and wanted to build theirs. Since middle school I said I wanted to be a ‘Youtuber’ but was too scared to do it because I was afraid of being bullied for it (one of my biggest regrets because no amount of hate is worth not chasig your dreams). Once I hit highschool I wanted to model seriously and kept building my portfolio. When we went into lockdown in 2020 (AKA the worst senior year of highschool to ever exist with no prom or proper graduation) I decided that I was never gonna see most of the people ever again and to start making content on social media. I immediately began to gain traction from my cringey TikTok dances, but I wouldn’t change a thing looking back. There was something so magical about that time. From 2020 to 2023 I kept with my platforms but was not consistent as I was juggling school, work, and producing content. I also have always struggled with self esteem, so giving millions of strangers the ability to tear apart every little thing about you was not good for my mental health during that period. One day at the end of 2023 I decided that I was quitting my job and going full force into content, a few months later I signed with my publicist and since February my entire life has completely changed. I have been invited to my dream events, music festivals, and worked with brands I used to save all my money to purchase from. My biggest lesson throughout all of this is that NO dream is too big, if you want something go for it. I would rather fall on my face a million times shooting for the stars, than stay in an environment where I feel unfulfilled but safe.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
While I am constantly traveling, Boston will always be home and the small city has so much to offer. If I was to bring my bestie who has never visited Massachusetts before, I would start by bringing them STRAIGHT to Bova’s bakery right from the airport. They are an italian bakery that has the most delicious treats and food. I would obviously have to bring them to a sports game depending on the time of year (Patriots, Celtics, Bruins, or Red Sox game), and have a day around Faneuil Hall for the best shopping, food, and vibes. I would also have to take them down to Cape Cod for a few days and visit the beaches, have some amazing seafood, go see Martha’s Vineyard, and Provincetown! Obviously we would need to take a day for a family cookout too, which is one of my most favorite things to do in the summer here.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There is someone who deserves the utmost credit and recognition in my story and will always be the girl that helped me make my dreams come true and her name is Lucy Combs. She is my best friend that I met in college, we were both majoring in fashion and I (literally) slid in her dms telling her I liked her pants on the first day of classes. We sat together the next day, and every day after that, and immediately became best friends. She immediately became one of my biggest supporters and would help me with ALL of my photoshoots and collaborations. She really stuck by me when all of this first began for me and I hope that one day I can return the favor for her. Almost every collaboration on my page before February 2024 was shot by her, and for two 19 year old girls trying to figure out how to work a camera in my bedroom, I think we did pretty damn good.
